  9. DAY 10: THE DREADED LEGS

    Narrative: Was very surprised by what went down today. Woke up, popped BG first thing, texted my partner if he was coming, and got in a quick game of Starcraft 2 (yep there is some nerd in me here haha). Partner couldn't make it since he had his kid so I whipped up the PW and headed off to the gym. When I first got there I ran into a strange (albeit dumb) situation: two of the power racks were being used by brocurlers, and the squat rack was being used by some short huge guy to do rack pulls. I prefer to use the squat rack when I do legs solo because if I need to drop the weight the catch bars are right there... as opposed to the power racks that I walk out of with the weight on my back because when I go below parallel the rack itself gets in the way of the bar so if I have to drop the weight EVERYONE WATCH OUT! So I approached the short guy who was pretty jacked and had his Dr. Dre Beats in and looked at him and pointed to the bar. He shook his head yes, and then lost eye contact. So I stood next to him and when he looked at me again I asked him "how many more you got?" Takes off headphones. "How many more you got?" "Oh I just got started..." and I mumbled to myself "wish there were more squat racks" but at this point his headphones were already back on. And then the CIRCUIT training began. I watched him go from rack pulls, to HammerStrength Hi/Low rows, to DB rows, back to the rack, etc.

    WTF BRO. You can't just claim a piece of equipment just because its within your circuit. If you aren't there for a few minutes why not let me work in with you? Kind of ridiculous. So I went up to the curlbros and luckily they only had one set left. So now that I was a little agitated I had some motivation to do the squats and the rest of my routine. My mentality is shifting on leg day from "lifting for size" to "lifting for strength" since my upcoming bulk will have me doing just that. So instead of X amount of weight times high volume, I went for heavy weight and low reps.

    Weight: 226lbs

    LEG EXTENSION WARMUP: 95x10,10,10

    SQUATS: 135x10,10 165x8 185x6 205x3 I changed my stance up a little bit here. I have been so used to my powerlifting squat form with wide feet but lately that has been hurting my knees so I moved them in just outside shoulder width and found it easier to move the heavy stuff while still achieving parallel/below parallel squats. Felt good to put up over 200lbs again, although for just 3 reps. Now I have a pace set for the upcoming months.

    LEG PRESS: Meant to do front squats but I was so in the zone I just completely forgot about them lol 225x12 315x10 405x8 425x8 445x5

    SEATED CALF RAISE: 150x12,10,10,15

    HAMSTRING CURLS: 155x10 140x8,8

    GLUTE HAM RAISE: BW+25 x 10,10

    LEG EXTENSION: 140x12 150x10 155x8

    Cooled down with a nice 10 minute walk on the tready at 3.3mph and 7.5% incline. Broke out into a nice sweat. Felt real good.

    I walked out feeling more accomplished than usual. Its hard for me to put my powerlifting out of my mind when I compare them to my current numbers. Back then I used to squat 225 x 10 like it was nothing. But I was also 1) Not doing ANY cardio 2) Eating dirty CONSTANTLY and 3) only lifted the big 3 each time I was in the gym, which was only twice a week. I'm not going to revert back to that lifestyle to justify the strength gains. I didn't like that way I looked or felt, so thats a no-go. I need to capitalize and grow on what I've established here, and thats what I plan to do.

  13. Random update.

    While I'm waiting for the wife so we can head home thought I'd post some thoughts about some new discoveries I have made, and this time all signs point to BG as being the culprit!

    Noticed it alot tonight. At first I blamed it on the partitioning effects of recompadrol but I'm still feeling it hours after I ate my last meal. And its not workout related because I did legs today.... Vascularity is on the rise! And not only that, but the sense of feeling more fullness throughout my musculature, particularly my arms, upper chest, back, and shoulders. Noticed the veins popping while in a patients room and thought it was strange but that was awhile ago and I'm still seeing them! Something good is going on here...

  14. DAY 11: **** YOU SHOULDERS!

    Freakin' awesome day in the gym! Shoulders might just be my favorite muscle group to workout. I always walk out of the gym feeling accomplished, swollen, and sore. It hurt to even raise my arms up to hold onto the steering wheel!

    Weight: ???

    SEATED DB SHOULDER PRESS: 45x10,10,10,9 argh missed it! 35x9 30x6 25x8

    OVERHEAD SHOULDER SHRUG: 55x15 65x10,10,10,15

    DB SHRUG DROPSETS: 85x19 65x8 45x15

    SCAPTION: 20x10,10,10,10 10x10

    REAR DELT FLYS: 15x10,10,10,10

    FACE PULLS: 40x10 60x10,10 50x10,10 These were new for me. May have to just try 40 or even 30 for 4 sets of 10. The instructional video I saw showed the instructor placing his fingers in between the scapula of the student and having him squeeze together and get them to touch. The heavier weight allowed me to do this for the first couple of reps and then the form was bad. I'll start with 30 next time I think and work my way up. These replace/substitute for upright rows. Felt pretty good actually. Noticed pump/soreness immediately.

    REAR DELT PULLEY RAISE: 20x5 lol my shoulders were just burned out and I walked out!

    Felt great. Anticipating a mid-log video review on Sunday. Its gonna be VIDEO SUNNNNDAAAY! Two videos on the Cut thread, and one in here. Then I can finally change my signature to reflect this log haha.

    Just hung out with the wife today. First time in 4 days. Tomorrow she has to work so we made the best of it by watching the first bluray disc of Dexter season 6. And much to my surprise she had breakfast waiting for me when I got home from work... and then cooked dinner for me later that night!!!

When I get up and go workout I'm just gonna go and not bother even asking if he'll be there. If he is, great, if not no big deal. I'll keep making those gains.

    Feeling some BIG TIME DOMS in my lats today! Holy cow! And its not even Day 2 post back workout (I always feel like the DOMS are worse on the second day)! Perhaps I should be taking some PW on my off days as well. I already swallowed my BG pills when I woke up thinking I was going to go to the gym... but at the same time it lets me know that whatever work I'm putting in for the back workout sure is working! WOooooooooooo!!!

  26. Trrying to decide if I want to do some cardio tomorrow (haven't done any since coming back from honeymoon) or if I want to do chest/tris. If I do cardio I may have to change it up... my left foot is bothering me. Did something to it last night hanging out with my brother and it hurts to put weight on it. Not the ankle either... like tarsal area. Oh well. Perhaps I'll hit up the rowing machine. People need to learn how to use those damn things correctly. I see bad form on the ALL the time!

I find myself talking in my head about what I'm seeing other people doing. "What a douche, get the **** out of the way, what terrible form bro." I never used to think like this. I'd be completely complacent in the gym. Now I got in very aggravated and can't wait to throw around the weights. Apparently its translating to outside the gym as well. I snapped at the wife's dog for licking a spot on the carpet. When he went back to it, I raised my voice and told him "NO!" again. Well she didn't like that. Asked me why I've been in mood lately... And nothing has happened to even put me in a bad mood! Or make me irritated or upset! Is this BG? I have no idea. But I like the confidence it gives me when I go into the gym. Everything suddenly becomes... LIGHT WEIGHT.

    Tomorrow is cardio day w/ the lady!

    Funny thing is I wish I could have (and usually) do more! I just can't get enough!

    As far as sides go... I haven't really noticed anything. Well besides this aggression thing, if it really is in relation to BG. Still have great energy, good mood, great sleep... the one thing I may have noticed, if even anything at all, was perhaps some slight acne going on around my shoulders/upper arms. But its not the typical acne. Very tiny little bumps. I don't remember them being there during the honeymoon and I started BG/PW as soon as we got back so that may be something but its not that bothersome at all.

    At just slightly more than halfway this stack is treating me right! I feel like its just now starting to ramp up, and I'm looking forward to the end of this month!!!

    On a side note, Santa came early to my household and dropped off a bunch of goodies I will be using for my next natty stack to begin sometime after my log for Lecheek (so probably around October).
