Explain steroid metabolites?

Can someone examine what metabolites are exactly and where they come from? I was looking up detection times for methystenbolone when all I could find was how the steroid itself is gone in 45 hours but metabolites in a week from a single dose. I don't understand how that works or the difference can someone explain?

Metabolites are molecules created from the steroid being metabolized in the body.

Enzymes cause reactions and molecules to change.

Example, dht and estrogen are metabolites of testosterone.

If you want to know more start reading up on steroid metabolism

It gets so complex I don't even want to think about explaining it.
