Hey guys, had symptoms of low testosterone so i went to the doctors. (Low sex drive, weak erections, lethargy)

It is measured in nmol/l and the range is 10-30 which includes men of all ages.

I went last year and came back with a value of 14, im 22 years old and according to many studies the mean for my age is 24 and i am in the lowest 5%. Considering i go to the gym lift weights, dont drink a lot and eat well that sucks compared to how lazy and poor diet everyone my age has.

I have been retested a year later, its now at 10.8 :/, the doctor said it was fine its within the range and i told her to find the study so she did on google. She said not to worry, i pushed for a referal to a hormone specialist and she said 'i dont see what good that can do but i will'.

What the **** is with gp's? And do you guys agree with me?

It's obviously low. And endocrinologist would help you more than a gp. Have you done any cycles recently?

Go see the hormone doc asap. Esp. if you haven't cycled anything. Its good to go and be able to be honest about never running a cycle.

Why asap bro? I cant believe she was so ignorant, i had to tell her to google the study and read it

You are going to want a much more comprehensive hormone panel test done. Things like LH, FSH, shbg, perhaps even a CMP (complete metabolic panel) You need to get down to the root cause of why your levels are low if you have never done a cycle before. Those things will help to determine why and IF you perhaps have primary or secondary hypogonadism.

Well it could explain A LOT of things, lol. Mainly why you feel like crap, I'm assuming probably pretty lethargic and tired, and not much results as far as muscle gains or fat loss go in the gym.

Once you get some more numbers and tests run, and hopefully find a more competent doc, you can see about getting on something like trt if it comes to that.

she's a general practicioner, not a specialist. Generally that doesn't happen in males your age, her expertise is in treating common things.

Honestly I think thats unfair. I'm not sure what you do for a living, but picture all the things you expect a GP should know, on top of all of the things that they HAVE to know and understand. There's pretty well a human limit for how much knowledge you can have in such a huge area.

I can see what you mean but she knew nothing. She said she wasent really familiar with testosterone.

And at this practice there is like 6 doctors, ive seen 4 for different things over the past few year, pretty much all of them used google and wikipedia to get answers.

Now to be a GP you need a few years as a junior doctor. So 5 years degree plus at least 2-3 years as a junior doctor you should know the basics of this... Lol

I know VERY few gp's who have any extensive experience in hormone replacement therapy. It's pretty common for her to not really understand testosterone levels all that well. That is why I recommended you see an endocrinologist instead. They will have a far better understanding.

Yeh thanks bro, i guess im glad i did some research before i went to see her. She said she would refer me if i really wanted to and she is going to speak to the other doctors and get back to me aswell so either way i will get a refferal.

yes, you can. I wouldn't advise it until you are stabilized on a good trt protocol though. Basically the only difference will be that you won't have to run a pct, you will just drop back to your trt dose.

Yeh i will wait a while, Well thats a lot better not needing PCT then

well...that's a matter of perspective. I'd rather be able to count on my own body to produce testosterone instead of having to give myself shots every week. But on the other side of the fence, if your body is not able to do so for whatever reason, I'm glad I have the option of giving myself shots every week.

Yeh same bro, but if its not working ill get used to the shots part, itll be worth it in the long run and so on. Btw do you think that is a low reading, 14? and then 10.8 on a scale of 10-30 and im 22 years old? Or am i being stupid pushing for a referall because its within the range? I can never have sex and ejaculate more than once and the amount of semen i produce is very small a lot of the time.

well, the amount of semen has little to nothing to do with testosterone levels, and not being able to have sex more than once generally more indicates a prolactin issues. Thats why seeing the specialist is important, just taking testosterone won't necessarily help your issues by itself.

I thought it was linked strongly, hence testosterone boosters produce bigger loads generally?

Prolactin, would that indicate a pituitary problem?

why are yall shocked a GP doesn't know about HRT? a GPs job is to check your ears for wax and write you prescriptions for lotrimin and tetracycline, not testosterone.

they aren't endos.

but its not low, its in the established normal range.... as far as the GP considers it, as thats what the test results said.

And you are in the land of socialized healthcare, so things work differently anyhow.

But a GO doesn't treat "maybe it will go below normal". And those symptoms can be caused by all sorts of things, most of which are outside what a GP treats

I overtrained so bad in my 20s Along with soy protein i developed a bit of gyno. Went back with less trainng and quitting the soy protein. Severe overtraining can lower test.

Yeh i suppose bro, i might do a month of testogel and tell him im not feeling anything, i just jumped at the chance of the easy route out. i mean ill be fine for 3 months and then my levels will probably drop and then ill ask to be referred

No, it doesn't work that way. You'll suppress and change your values, and future blood tests will be meaningless

Yea and no. Depending on the results of more thorough blood tests there are protocols to follow for a restart, the gel isn't one of them.

Maybe, a restart protocol is based on what's actually wrong, which is why more thorough bloodwork before starting on testosterone is important

Good point, well i might go back to my gp, stay on the gel?, and ask for a referal to an endocrinologist to find out the reason? There is always a reason btw isent there?

The endocrinologist is going to make you come off the gel for a couple months anyhow to try and get accurate bloodwork so there's not much point in using it for a month
