    Well I'm new here, so here's my contribution to hopefully prove I don't suck. Here's my non-traditional adaptation of chana masala - delicious, nutritious, perfect for a carb-up.

    Chickpea Curry (Chana Masala)

    4 Large turnips, cubed
    3-4 Sweet potatoes, cubed
    2 Tbsp Turmeric
    2 Tbsp Ground ginger
    1 tsp Ground cayenne pepper
    1 Tbsp Black pepper
    1 Large can, diced tomatoes
    8 cloves Garlic, crushed
    4-5 Tbsp Garam Masala spice mix
    2 cans Chick Peas, drained and rinsed
    2 cans Black beans, drained and rinsed
    1 cup Water
    4 Cooking onions, sliced

    -Blend dried spices together.
    -Heat water in a large saucepan.
    -Add one half of the spice blend. Simmer over low heat.
    -Add sweet potato, turnips and tomatoes. Stirring occasionally, simmer over medium-low heat until softened (oil is optional). Add more water as needed.
    -Stir in onions, garlic and remaining spices.
    -When onions are beginning to soften, turn off heat and add chickpeas/beans.
    -Ideally, let stand overnight, it'll taste better the next day
    -Serve alone, on a bed of brown rice or quinoa, or with chapati or 100% stoneground wholewheat bread.
    -Makes a lot! Preserves and freezes well defrost overnight and reheat on stove (not microwave).
