So I just finished up a show called "Roots of 9/11" on ONDEMAND Discovery channel.
It was basically examining the feelings of hatrid the Arabic community has for us.
1) The military presence in the Middle East, and the support for Israel over Palestine.
2) How most of the terrorists migrated from their native countries to Europe, and felt like outcasts, stereotyped as fanatics by Europeans/Whites/Etc.
3) Frustration at not being able to rule their country; getting bossed around by big nations, etc.
4) The oldest civilizations in the world are now the ones that are the most far behind.
But what I found most interesting was at the end. They let the host film in a very 'popular' mosque in Egypt. Hundreds of men gathered in prayer, bowing, and doing their rituals for Friday Noon Prayer.
Then, at the end of the service, you start hearing this yelling. It was some fanatical guy, standing on a makeshift stool and yelling about politics, America, you know.
Most of the men left, but of course some stayed. This holy place, this shrine, was turned into a recruiting, prophaghanda machine.
This stuff drives me nuts, man. They are fighting for political reasons...they want freedom, to govern their own lands, free of western power, etc. And they are making it into a holy war; probably for the ability to recruit more people. A political war is one thing, but a holy war is another.
This fanatical thinking is going to be the downfall of Islamic religion. I've been trying to see it from both angles, to try and understand why they are doing this.
But, the host of the show put it very well:
"if there isn't a war within the civilizations, between the good and evil, it will become a war between civilizations"
I don't think the 'good' residents of these Middle Eastern countries realize that if they don't stop this radical school of thought from brewing within their ranks, among other things, I beleive it will discredit the Islam religion in the future, along with topple any sort of peace or freedom they thought.
If they think it's bad now, with the occasional Afghanistan operation to root out terrorists, or action in Iraq, think again. This sh*ts only starting.
