Rampage Jackson was arrested today for a hit & run, while driving in Newport Beach, California. I didn't actually see Rampage or his truck, but I did see a number of police cars whizzing around near the freeway entrance today. It's a shame, this comes at a bad time right after his loss to Forest, I hope it doesn't send him down a bad path.

All he did was hit some fools car... but decided not to pull over... hit more *hit... and get jacked up by police.

Then Dana flies to OC to post bail.

Yeah, it says he was on the way to training, but I think he may have been intoxicated because he drove over the center dividers, he drove the wrong way down one way streets, and finally he drove up onto the sidewalk causing pedestrians to dive out of the way. So there is a good chance someone could have gotten hurt here.

I have some friends that live down in Balboa, close to me here in Newport Beach, and they witnessed some of this first had. He was ordered out at gunpoint and appeared to be talking / mumbling to himself.

Sucks for his kids / family

I know he did it to himself, but damn it sucks for Rampage to be in this situation. He could have had a rematch for the belt, but now title contention is far away.

Hopefully all is well and no one got hurt, but I hope he pulls through this, whatever it was that caused him to do this BS. Whether it be alcohol, drugs, or something personal.

He'll be fine. Dana has the cash to get him a good lawyer and it is in his best interest to keep an asset like Rampage as active as possible. I can almost guarantee that most of the charges will be dropped and/or reduced to just a fine, probation, and some community service.

You may be right but he should get a lot worse than community service and some fines if that is the case. Especially if they find that he was intoxicated.

Yeah but why would you take off, hit three other vehicles, have one of your tires blow out and keep driving on just a rim before you stop? He had to be trying to hide something. Maybe he forgot to renew his insurance. Yeah that's probably it.

Uhhh, Southern California + celebrity = lots and lots of grace. Now if he were hot & blond, they would have already released him and given him a check for his troubles. He might still get his hand slapped, but I tend to agree with Rodja's evaluation. Southern California celebrity culture on top of Dana's willingness to protect his investment, i don't see this as big of a problem as some. Dana might toss people out of TUF reality show without a flinch, but they're not making him millions of dollars.

This is how I see it: With all the top 10 fighters booked for bouts, and Wanderlei Silva fighting in December, he's left to fight: Jardine, Shogun, or Rampage. Wand vs Rampage 3 = big money.

I hope he pulls it together, whatever the case. I don't want to miss that fight!

Trying to figure out why he has to have his pic on the truck. You would think he would want less attention. Instead he is in a 12ft tall cromed out truck with his pic on it.

It kinda supprised me because it seemed that he was fairly well grounded...for an MMA figter. :)

Rampage was arrested again last night and taken to psych hospital. WTF this guy's losing it.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Sources say last night an Irvine police car was waved down by people near the place Rampage was staying who said he was acting weird. This, of course, following the insane chase the day before in which the UFC fighter hit several cars in his monster truck and was arrested at gunpoint.

We’re told Irvine cops saw Rampage, deemed him a danger to himself and others, and took him to a hospital for observation.

Cops won’t officially confirm if it’s a psychiatric hold.

Maybe further contemplation of his controversial loss by questionable decision finally got to him and he's snapping. Perhaps being Champ meant more to him then he knew. Oooorrrr he's just having a bad couple of days. He's one of my favorite personalities, I'd hate to see him go. It's the media and that dang Britney Spears thats making our kids and Pro MMA fighters act the way they are today.

I agree that Rampage was a good face of the sport. He is a bad ass fighter, funny as hell and can self depricating. I loved his comment after the Forest fight when he said Forest whipped his ass. I hope he can get things straight and back to normal because he can't go 8 months without fighting again and get back on top. Not to mention he seems like a good person and fairly well grounded.

I remember one of the first times I say him interviewed on a Pride fight. He said what he liked most was that he got paid to slam a MFer and whip his ass without having to go to jail.

After his win over Ninja Rua he tried giving Ninja the trophy and acknowledged that he thought he lost the fight. That really shows a lot of character so I'd imagine losing the way he did (I believe it was a bullsh*t decision) took it's toll on him.

You've got to take into consideration that the Pride belt meant a lot to him too. He said he just got it after working so hard for it and lost it.

No way the UFC was giving him a title shot, Chuck vs Forrest=big $$$. Rampage vs Wandy 3 = Big $$$. Hell i'm sure they'd want to hype up a Shogun vs Rampage 2 before he ever saw a title shot.

I'd be depressed as sh*t if I was in his situation too.

I know it would be a long shot, but if Silva destroys Irvin at light heavy and he wants to stay in that division they will hand him a title shot. The thing I love about Silva is he fights 4 times a year vs some champs that are once a year.

Anderson isn't staying in the 205 div. He said that belt belongs to Machida.

Oh yeah and the fact that Anderson fights 4 times a year is awesome IMO. That's probably too many times a year, but lots of love for him doing that, being the champion and all.

i think you are misleading ppl. jackson did not get arrested again. the article states that a patrol car was going through jackson's neighborhood and the family decided to flag the officer.
jackson is going through a mental breakdown and ppl should understand that this is something serious. jackson was not dui or had any illegal substances in his car. yes what he did was wrong and he definitely could have hurt ppl, but this is deeper than just somebody breaking the law.

Do you think Rampage's melt down has anything to do with Jaunito retiring? He did go on record and say that he would retire if Forrest beat Page, but I haven't heard if he is actually going to be true to his word or not.

Juanito's not retiring. He already said so. DMT, I posted the article for people to read so they can see the situation. Maybe "arrested" wasn't the perfect choice of words, but cops were involved.

It's just hype for a fight.
There are many ways to hype a fight besides making promises that you don't intend to keep when you lose. It ruins credibility, and without that you have nothing but a face with a mouth moving.

More Rampage news -
1. He fired Juanito
2. UFC interested in Silva-Page III in November
3. Seems like he's been a little unstable for a while

On July 15, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, lived up to his nickname. But not in a positive light.

After treating the 55 Freeway near Newport Beach, Calif., as a demolition derby, crashing into multiple cars with his raised Ford truck (which had his image emblazoned on the side), Jackson soon found himself behind prison bars.

"I was very scared for him," said a source close to Jackson who asked not to be identified.

Rampage's seismic shift from an idolized mixed martial artist began after he relinquished his title on points to Forrest Griffin UFC 86 on July 5. The decision to fire Juanito Ibarra, his trainer, manager and occasionally spiritual mentor, came shortly thereafter. A lack of food and sleep compounded unsettling behavior, and TMZ photos of Jackson face down in the street at the rear of his Bigfoot-inspired truck -- its left front tire shredded -- documented the result of a dangerous chase with police

Word of Jackson's arrest spread quickly, and within hours, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White flew in from Las Vegas with $25,000 cash in hand. Finding a bail bondsman, Ibarra, who has ignored repeated attempts for comment since the incident, also appeared ready to bail Rampage out of jail.

Upon Jackson's release, the plan was to make the switch from a Costa Mesa jail cell to a psychiatric hospital bed. He refused help, and no one was going to convince him otherwise. The only place he was headed was home.

Rampage demanded silence when he wasn't offering words of faith. He spoke of a "wolf in sheep's clothing" and people aligned with the devil.

"Mentally he wasn't there," said the source. "It was almost as if he was possessed. He heard voices. He thought he was a God."

Talk amongst people in the house turned to the need for medical help. At first, they tried convincing Rampage to head for the hospital. That failed, tempers flared and police, thankfully, intervened. Several hours later, the fighter was under psychiatric hold.

"He went very easy" with police, said the source.

Three days later, rested and nourished, Rampage was reunited with friends.

"He would still make comments that were slightly weird," said Jackson's longtime associate. "You could tell that he wasn't all the way there, but each day you could tell he was better."

Against lawyers' advice, Jackson has gone out several times. Fan requests for autographs at a local mall have been happily fulfilled. His only other trips are to outpatient treatment, which he attends daily.

"He knows what he went through," said the source. "He knew he had an emotional breakdown that led to a mental breakdown. Not eating and not sleeping kind of helped with that."

In 2004, Jackson experienced a similar incident when he claimed he was touched by Jesus in a dream, scaring him enough to bolt from his apartment with his son D'Angelo in tow. That night he was born again.

Jackson, a Memphis native, was hardly a modest man. With his MMA success, family and friends wondered how he was going to deal with a life that now demanded giving so much to something other than himself?

In reality, the answer could have applied to D'Angelo, born from a relationship during his wrestling days at Lassen Community College in Northern California. And his faith.

The pressure to live an evangelical life weighed heavy. Jackson became celibate and focused his mental and physical energy on training for his Oct. 31, 2004 fight against Wanderlei Silva, the PRIDE 205-pound champion who had previously caved in Jackson's head with over 20 consecutive knees roughly a year prior.

While the first month of balancing his new-found faith with everyday life was a cakewalk, the same could not be said for the second month. After reading on the Internet that fasting would keep the devil away, Jackson abstained from food for three days, ingesting only water and keeping details of his diet secretive.

What Jackson didn't realize was his fast had depleated his body and virtually killed any chance of defeating Silva. An inspired opening round gave way to fatigue in the second for Jackson, while Silva, not needing any kind of edge to begin with, brutally beat Rampage until he was unconscious and lay motionless between ropes.

But the loss in the ring did nothing to quell Rampage's relationship with the higher power. Rather, news that his father, who had abandoned him when he was 10 years old and was also born again, provided additional proof that everything happens for a reason. The loss to Silva was, therefore, easier to deal with, and the backdrop for Jackson's future relationship with Ibarra slowly unfolded.

In talking with Jackson about leading his promising career, Ibarra preached his faith as if he was leading a congregation. His gospel-like tune continued to play throughout their time together, as each training camp featured religious themes were displayed prominently around the gym. Ibarra's "son" believed in himself again, and pieces appeared to fall into place when Jackson defeated Chuck Liddell for a second time May of last year.

The victory, Rampage would tell me in a rambling late-night call from Ireland a month later, was already decided.

"Ya'll don't see how it was just perfect timing?" he asked. "Ya'll don't see that it was written? Ya'll can't see that that was planned? That that was destiny? Ya'll don't see that cause ya'll don't have the eyes that I have. You don't know what God stored in me. I'm God's street soldier. No matter what happens I will always be God's street soldier, and I always know he's going to take care of me. And everything's going to be OK."

Everything, save the pact between Jackson and Ibarra. With defeat as the impetus, Jackson responded to rough terrain by relieving the trainer of his duties, though "bottom line, somehow, someway it all involves money," said the fighter's friend.

As an Aug. 15 court date approaches for the 30-year-old father of four, a search for a new representation is underway. And, though he is only two weeks removed from an incident that allegedly sent pedestrians scurrying for their lives, the UFC is said to be interested in a November return for Rampage with a third fight against Silva.

His appearance in the cage will depend primarily on his mental state. But, as Jackson says himself, everything happens for a reason.

When I saw that Rampage interview the day before the arrest I knew he was fvcked in the head. Anytime someone starts talking crazy religious rubbish you know they're in trouble. I like Rampage, he's a cool dude, but he needs to think. He needs to let go of the God rubbish and think logically, and think about fighting.

Baby dies after crash

Woman whom officials say ‘Rampage’ Jackson hit in car collision has miscarried, fiance says. No actions filed yet.

A Huntington Beach woman who was more than 16 weeks pregnant and who police said was injured in a hit-and-run crash with mixed martial artist Quinton “Rampage” Jackson on the 55 Freeway two weeks ago has had a miscarriage, her fiance said Friday.

Holli Griggs, 38, was driving her 2007 Cadillac Escalade in the left lane on the southbound 55 Freeway just south of Bay Street on July 15 when Jackson’s gray-and-green pick-up truck sideswiped her as he drove along the median lane at about 45 mph, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Prosecutors have yet to file charges against Jackson, a former light heavyweight champion for the Ultimate Fighting Championship who remains free on $25,000 bail. Prosecutors would not comment on any potential charges due to Griggs’ miscarriage.

“Our office will make sure we take as much time as necessary to make a proper filing decision and including all evidence and medical information to make sure any charges that are filed are fair and accurate,” Dist. Atty. spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.

Efforts to reach Jackson and his representatives have been unsuccessful since he was arrested.

Griggs was unavailable for comment Friday. Her fiance, Bill Krebs, said doctors were immediately concerned when they noticed a significant loss of fluid in Griggs’ womb after the accident. Days before the crash, the couple had visited the doctor for an ultrasound, and Griggs was told she “had enough fluid for three babies,” Krebs said. She was pregnant with a boy.

Griggs was sent to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian after the accident, CHP officials said. Krebs said he and Griggs were then sent to pregnancy specialists at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Anaheim, where doctors noticed the problem.

The couple have retained an attorney but have yet to take legal action against Jackson.

“No amount of money will bring back my son,” Krebs said outside his home Thursday.

Jackson was arrested July 15 after Costa Mesa police say they chased him from 18th Street and Newport Boulevard, where he was weaving through traffic with a flat tire while talking on the phone all the way to 18th Street on Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach.

Jackson ran several red lights, drove on concrete islands narrowly missing pedestrians, headed into oncoming traffic and hit another car, police said. Officers did not test Jackson for drugs or alcohol because he did not appear to be under the influence, Sgt. Bryan Glass said. He was released that night on bail.

The next day, Jackson was taken from his Irvine home and hospitalized for observation after police deemed he was a danger to himself and others. Jackson was upset by Forrest Griffin in a light heavyweight title bout in Las Vegas July 5.
