I am sure I am not alone here but a lot of the time this stuff gets over my head, even though I have a degree in Biology. Has anyone ever thought about putting together a comprehensive guide on hypogonadism and TRT? It would be nice to have a source to turn to that would describe in detail all the mechanisms, lab values, abbreviations, etc. associated with this. I have tried to learn as much as I can but often feel like I am trying to put together a huge puzzle and I can't find all the pieces. Just a thought. I am sure it would help a lot of people.

Excellent idea.
It is not going to happen unless you do it.
Read and keep notes.
Open separate thread for that purpose, post your findings there.

Thanks! I guess that would be an excellent way for me to learn more. I suppose the first step after posting a new thread would be to get a general outline of what it would contain and go from there. I just think it would be so cool have a document that someone could read and come away feeling like they fully understood the disease process, the labs associated with it and how it should be treated. If it got out there it could save a lot of people a ton a suffering. I had to suffer with this for twenty years before I found out what it was and where to get help. It just shouldn't be that way.

I agree that entirely too much suffering goes on with this. And while I agree with the fact there should be one repository of information, it really isn't that simple. For one thing, we are all different, so a lot of times the approach is different for each person. There seems to be no one best way to treat people. Much of it is a combination of instinct, lab reports and to some degree trial and error.

But certainly there could/should be some way to at least learn what to look out for and the technologies available to correct the problem. There are lots of website out there that addresses this, but it does take a long time to sift through all the information.

I have been researching this issue for months and still have far to go.

Seems that this whole issue has been ignored by the traditional medical community. The vast majority of guys suffering from this never get past their local GP or maybe Urologist and take the "All you need is Androgel" at face value. They never question why their balls shrink or worry about a lifetime of dependency.

Here, we tend to get guys who are not willing to give up and won't stop till a solution is found. That's why I've seen maybe of the same names on various boards. We keep searching and searching till we find what we need.

Some of the best posts are the hardest to find, but judicious use of Google, reading the stickies and good ol' fashioned effort are the tools of the trade. This said, I agree that a central source would be VERY helpful and then some. The question is, however, how to do this.

If I can further suggest.
Start with LEF.org "protocols".
Pick few commonly discussed health problems.
Convert each to more detailed procedure, with idea that it would cover (only) 95% cases.
The 5% outliers indeed have no choice but suffer or locate good specialist.
My intrest is not only in TRT but more general (self-directed) anti-aging.

I totally agree with you Anyman. I think this board does attract people that are not willing to settle. I know thats how I feel. It just seems like the medical community, Doctor John and some others being the exception, just have their head in the sand when it comes to TRT and don't seem very willing to learn more. I don't know why this is, but one thing for sure. I not willing to accept that attitude. That's why I got into see Dr. John. I think this is way more prevalent than the medical community recognizes. Look at the popularity of the ED meds out there. Maybe I am wrong but I find it hard to believe that everyone suffering from that has circulatory problems. My goal in wanting such a document is to just give people soemthing to fight back with so that they can become informed and knowledgable enough to know how the disease process works and if they are getting proper treatment. I don't know where to start either. Jansz, I will check out LEF.org

I am really beginning to wonder about the drug companies.

I know 3 people who are drug reps. All they want to do is push drugs and con doctors. Case in point: My first consult to a local urologist was a total waste of time. Without even seeing anything more than a T level (Not even FSH of LH) his solution was Androgel. When this didn't work he was all too quick to suggest one clinical trial or another. My attempts and suggestions to get to the root cause were blown off or ignored. I then tried a local Endo, who was even MORE useless.

The drug companies don't GAS about us as humans. It's all about pushing a drug and money rather than fixing root causes. I fear for the world my kids will live in. I am NO treehugger or granola munching fruitcake by a long shot, but even I can see a self destructive pattern we need to stop.

Easy, anyman. Be lucky you found source for the testosterone that you need.
My doc did exactly the same thing.
My take home message:
presently I am not able to fing the right doctor but:
his prescriptions for Androgel plus my research will get me thru, until I find better way.

I am not here to fight ot teach medical establishment,
I am here to survive in spite of the pitfalls of the system.
