Do you guys get spammed a lot?  I have a yahoo email account and I get over 100 junk mail going to my bulk folder a day.  Yes, a day!!  My hotmail gets about 40 a week.  Some people suggest that everytime you click a link from the email to unsubscribe, it recogize that your address is active and will send/sell the email address to others.  Therefore, the more you unsubscribe, the more mail you get!!

On another account I don't get many junk mail, but I still do.  It's interesting cuz the only times I use this one is to communicate with people I know, or buy things from reputatable companies.  Somehow the bad folks still get a hold of the email address.

I pay for an address at Spamcop.net, but you can get a free account and report all the spam you get.

www.spamcop.net

With spamcop I get 0 spam, but if you do, you can automatically report them to the ISP and have their account closed. It also has lots of filters to block known spamming providers and even countries.

The next two tools are for pop3/imap only (not http accounts)

http://www.mailwasher.net/

This one will send a bounce (dead letter box) message back to the sender of the spam, so they'll think your address is defunct. Kinda like the Telezapper for spam.

http://www.cloudmark.com/

This is a p2p spam program. Users mark spam they get, and it is processed through the whole system. So anyone who gets the spam, will either report it for everyone, or simply not see it because its been reported. I haven't tried it, but its an interesting concept.

Finally, if all else fails do some reading on spamcon.

Good call on mailwasher, but as of the newest release it DOES work on http accounts. Hotmail included. I personally use that with extensive banned address lists/Hotmail spam filters, and I get no more than 1 - 3 messages a day of spam. And that's on my account where I used to easily receive 30 - 50 a day.

Mailwasher and spam filters w/ banned domains, not just addresses. That's the key to living a life... spam free. :)

Pow, from AnalogX is fantastic. Takes a little work to build the list, but it's a nice simple interface. Click on it in the systray, choose add/delete popups. Double-click the name of the popup you want gone, from within a new window that appears and you'll never see it again. :)

Download.com has a link for it, in a bit of a rush so I don't have the link... sorry
