You might need to explain what it is and how it works, cause I don't know.

If it makes anyone think twice about posting something stupid, I'm all for it.

You can give positive rep points for quality posts, neg rep points for bad posts.

Guess it would be fine as long as it isn't abused. At bb.com people are repped for posting stupid sh!t like pictures of owls and other lame stuff. Sadly people start assuming that people with reps are knowledgeable and those without them are retarded and thusfore explaining bb.com.

A nice big No... This isnt high school... you know certain people have knowledge by their posts... not by green dots next to their name.

You seem to assume that I would let it get that way. You assume wrong. There are several ways to control it in which you can't just randomly give people points. The number of ways I can customize it is broad. I think its a nice idea but hey that is why I put the poll up. I think it would work nice if I set it up right but the choice is yours.

It wouldnt be bad if it can be controlled pretty closely... With the users now it would be used correctly... but being such a large board, but yet so tighy knit... I think it is uneeded. Of course this is only opinion... because I never seen that on such an intelligent board... then again... I dont think I have ran accross another one.

Well...if this is the case...give it a try I guess.

But, BB.com has ruined my view of rep

Only as long as no one can be repped for their political views. Otherwise posting at all in the political forum would result in being put into the red.

Its really a toss up and actually if you just read a little bit when you first join the board it is very easy to tell who knows what they are talking about and who you can trust. IMO our board is great and doesn't need th bb.com addition. If you want us to be rated maybe it should be a mod only rating. That way it is trusted and isn't given for good porn pics or for other stupid things

Guys, this isn't a bb.com addition. Its used at numerous boards effectively. You guys are letting a large, liberally managed board taint your view of the function itself.

The abuse can't happen if those who abuse it are not around.

I think it would be ok to do a trial run.

Most people here know the rep and knowledge of the others on the board anyway.

Wow....never thought of the mod only usage. That sounds very trustworthy.

    I voted no.

I don't believe we would have bb.com type problems here; not with the people, mods, and the head clown we have here; so that's not my reason.

I just believe that it doesn't take very long to discover who knows what they are talking about and who is willing to help and etc v. those who don't and aren't. I don't see what value is added by the rep point system here.

Anyway, that's just my view and my vote.

I am a member at a few boards that have rep points. I have never given any out and have only received one and it was neg. So I have 800 plus posts with none of them being offensive or derogatory in any way and yet I have an overall neg rating.

I guess my experience soured me on the rep point idea.

Maybe have it an option. If you want to be able to give reps ythen you have to allow rep points to be given. If you don't want to be involved with the rep points you can not give or receive.

You can automatically get rep points for particiapting and being a member...example you get 1 point per month....1 point per 100 posts...

Here are some of the criteria I can set

How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again?

How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period?

How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others?

For every X points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

i say no. one can tell who has education under their belt by the points they make in their points. also the good members are pretty well known around here already and rep points aren't needed to establish that.

if it's not broke, dont fix it.

I liked when the "old" board had the karma points. I think it would be fine. I'm sure the clown in charge wouldn't let it get abused. He takes too much pride in his board.

It would be almost the same. The people that worry about abuse surprise me because it would be the same people you have now! Can you imagine someone asking for rep points on this board? He would be damaged for life...lol

Rep point don't establish a board presense. Your posts do. Its just a reward and nice to see sometimes when someone acknowledges your contributions. If anytinhg, its a novelty, nothing esle. THe personality of the members dictate how its used.
