TRT and insurance

So, recently found out that my insurance plan will be changing to one of those high-deductible plans. Basically, we will have to pay for everything out of pocket, even scripts, until we hit our deductible. I'm on Androgel, and currently pay $40/month. I was picking up my refill the other day and asked the pharmacist how much my Androgel would cost out of pocket..... $1200/month. WTF!!!

Not gonna happen. So on my next uro visit coming up, I have to talk with him about other options. I know when he first put me on TRT, he said he wasn't a fan of injections, so not sure what his position will be when I tell him I won't be able to afford Androgel anymore.

Can anyone tell me how much they pay for generic test injections, or know how much they would cost out of pocket?

I get a paper script for hcg and get it from overseas

Anastrozole dirt cheap thru my insurance

Cialis for bp and bedroom stuff cheap as well as the generic version,

Needles/syringes purchased online dirt cheap as well

Sub q both test and hcg injects at home

As pathetic as it will sound, I had to stop trt about 7 months ago bc I couldn’t afford the shots anymore. Insurance won’t cover. It was 20$ every two weeks, each shot was 200 test c. Two shots a month

Not pathetic at all, man. We all do the best we can. Sorry you had to stop trt, and hopefully you were able to at least somewhat recover.

So it looks like out of pocket generic test injections are less than the copay I'm spending on androgel. Just not sure if my uro will want me going with some off-brand gel or if he will actually consider injections. Guess I'll find out in about 3 weeks. I've heard that most of those generic gels are crap. Just hope this doesn't end up being a situation where I have to go looking for another doctor.

So 1ml is 200mg of Test? Is that pretty standard? If so, then assuming I did 100mg per/week, 3 vials would last 6 weeks.

j2048b gets a 10ml vial for $44, which is a lot cheaper, so looks like prices vary a lot.

Damn some of those prices I now understand why some people get it illicitly since test is supposed to be one of the easiest "supplements" to find.

When I go on trt ( long story I know I will though) I plan on taking a blast cruise method. Cruise with the 150 from the doctor for 10 weeks then blast 350 mg of test, 200mg per deca per week and maybe 30mg of dbol for the first 4 weeks. Figure if I am going to be on it might as well do it right.

To think about how many threads I've read where people are upset about paying $100-150 a bottle that lasts 3 months, yet would think nothing of paying $100+ mo for OTC supplements that accomplish almost nothing of what test does, it is pretty funny.

I started TRT recently through EM, and was telling my wife the out of pocket price. she was a little hesitant at first, but I pointed out that I wasn't going to need a whole lot of supplements anymore and it would prolly be even cheaper this way....

I just broke from the TRT clinic I was using for a few years because I changed my primary doc. I mentioned my TRT regimen to my new doc and he understands that, having a few hundred self-injections under my belt, he could write me a script for T cyp and allow me to self-administer it. That's the key, because their normal protocol is to come in for a 400mg shot to last two weeks which is horrible, and then you have to worry about the office visit copays in addition to the cost of the meds. While talking to him, he could see that I have an "advanced" understanding of the pros and cons of different protocols. Anyway, I didn't get preauthorized through insurance, as my plan requires. I wound up paying $69 for a 10 mL vial of West Ward T cyp, and a little over a buck for 30 1mg anastrozole pills to be cut up for .25mg doses. That price was not using GoodRx, so I could probably do even better. The T cyp will last me 10 weeks, and the anastrozole will last me 30 weeks. Overall, I will wind up saving tons without going through insurance, over what I was paying that clinic, since it works out to around $18 a month out of pocket for me, versus the hundreds I was paying the clinic.

Personally, I only did prescribed TRT for a couple years before just supervising my own and sourcing my own test. Much easier and less expensive this way. I still get labs done once in a while to see how levels are. Other than that, I follow my own protocol.

I basically shoot .2cc of test cyp EOD and just do the shots myself with a slin pin. Super stable levels, no need for an AI.
