I have only been training for 6 months in home gym, started building strength up slowly (I'm 36) so being sensible doing 3 sessions per week focusing on compound movements.

I have been training fore past 3 weeks doing 5x5 on heavier weights about 60% of 1 rep max. I just need help with the routine I do this 3 times a week followed by 20 mins cardio:

Front squats
Flat bench press
Bent over rows
Overhead barbell press
Barbell curls
Straight leg deadlift

On non weight days I do cardio twice a week leaving 2 days rest.

Any comments would be appreciated

The key movements here ar going to be: Flat Bench, Deadlifts and Squats (preferably back squats as opposed to front)

So for me it would look like:

Mon- Back Squats, Flat Bench, Rows 5x5
Tue- Cardio
Wed- Back Squats, OHP, Deadlifts 5x5
Thu- Cardio
Fri- Back Squats, Flat Bench, Rows 5x5
Sat- Rest
Sun- Rest

I'd repeat this weekly, this is my exact routine when i started and I did very well witht this, be interesting to see other opinion though

Cheers grinnell I have looked at the strongman programme and started last night with the same routine you have given. Being new'ish I feel like I should be doing more per session by including some more or would this by overtraining? Really appreciate your comment

No, wouldn't be overtraining. It's up to you if you add a couple extra exercises in, it's just because it's designed for a beginner. Then you would eventually create your own routine as you get more knowledgeable. :)

I don't think overtraining will be an issue at all. In my experience, more people undertrain than overtrain.
