Bruce was on AM recently telling board sponsors to order some brand new thing, and I assumed that it was a new supp by Gaspari or something. As he went about it all wrong, his threads were (appropriately) deleted by the Mod Squad. Sounds like this fiasco is something totally different, however.

Well, like him or not, it's bad to see this kind of thing stirring up more steroid/suplement controversy. Maybe PA can give him the name of a good attorney...

RSOC was a reputable ug lab that was around for several years. I doubt BK was the only one behind it though. They made/sold injectables as well as tabs. Wonder who else was busted in this ordeal?

I guess one lesson could be this;
If you are glossed a "steroid guru" and write extensively on the use of illegal anabolics, you should not be cooking the stuff in your own bathtub!

If that report is true, BK might be up with some consideration for a minor Darwin award (or at least a "dumb criminals" nomination).

No matter how it turns out, I don't want to see BK or anyone else go out like this...

For those of you not "lucky" enough to live here in lovely Massachusetts, on the channel 4 news the camera panned over a table of evidence and they showed stacks of labels for Gaspari prohormones, which all appears to be black & white rather than full color. Then some dorky guy with a nasal voice came on and slowly recited some press release, the only substances I remember being mentioned were d-bol and winstrol.
Think back, Methusaleh, did that news story imply there was a connection between the two, as in dbol and winnie were being labelled as legal Gaspari supplements for sale, or were they making the point that Gaspari products were similar to dbol and winnie, or was it just a bunch of unrelated this-n-that laying around his place?

BOSTON GLOBE
Arrest is called first in Web steroids ring
DA says drugs sold to bodybuilders
By Maria Cramer and Kathleen Burge, Globe Staff |
February 22, 2006

CANTON -- In the kitchen of his nondescript Canton apartment, Bruce Kneller packaged tens of thousands of illegal steroid pills he then shipped to Internet customers around the country, Norfolk County prosecutors said yesterday.

Federal and local authorities say they seized 100,000 suspected steroid tablets and 10 firearms from Kneller's home after his arrest on Friday -- the first raid in a two-year investigation into what authorities say is a nationwide steroid manufacturing and distributing ring that advertised discreetly on the Internet.

Yesterday, Kneller, 37, stood quietly in a Stoughton District courtroom in a suit and black overcoat as a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf to charges including drug possession with intent to distribute and 10 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Kneller, described by authorities as a former registered nurse and a self-employed import-export businessman, is accused of distributing the drugs to consumers who ordered them via e-mail and sent cash payments wrapped in aluminum foil to addresses in California. Authorities said the ring has made hundreds of thousands of dollars by marketing the drugs in gyms and on legitimate websites for bodybuilders.

To build their case, federal authorities said, they ordered illegal steroids over the Internet from e-mail addresses linked to Kneller. Authorities said they are continuing to investigate.

Officials said they do not know of any well-known athletes among customers. Two customers who were listed in court documents declined to talk about Kneller or his company.

''We do think there is a tremendous public safety issue attached to this," Norfolk District Attorney William R. Keating said yesterday. ''This case will provide, I think, a very rare opportunity to see just how these kinds of illegal Internet steroid distribution businesses work."

Illegal steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs have made international headlines in big-time sports with baseball stars, including slugger Mark McGwire, testifying before Congress last year. Professional sports leagues have since instituted stricter drug testing policies. The investigation that led to Kneller's arrest also involves US postal inspectors, the federal Food and Drug Administration, and the Canton police.

Kneller's lawyer denied the allegations, calling his client a family man with solid roots in the Canton area.

''He's born and raised here," said lawyer Edward Sharkansky. ''He's got family here. This is his home."

Kneller's parents and his wife, June, sat in the courtroom yesterday during the arraignment. They declined to speak to reporters afterward. In the basement of the courthouse, near the detention room, Kneller's mother comforted her daughter-in-law, her head against hers, one arm draped around her shoulder.

Authorities said Kneller had not registered the weapons in Massachusetts. Keating said he does not believe the guns are connected to the alleged drug operation. Kneller is also charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, and drug possession near a school.

Asked why thousands of suspected steroid pills were found in his client's home, Sharkansky said the answer would be fleshed out during trial.

''I don't have an explanation," he said.

Kneller is accused of working for a drug operation that advertised itself as Red Star Laboratories, which customers could find by searching on the Internet.

Customers were directed to an e-mail address that offered them price lists and products, typically $75 for a bottle of pills. To order, they used a second address. They were instructed to send money to one of six addresses in the San Diego area.

Prosecutors said Kneller received steroid pills, including some growth hormones designed for farm animals, from as far away as China and possibly as close as New Jersey. He then repackaged the pills that included Anadrol, Polysteron, and Masteron; wrapped them in labels that advertised them as Red Star Laboratories products; and sent them to customers by mail, prosecutors said. They said it is possible that Kneller mixed compounds to make some of the steroid pills.

Kneller, who was sometimes described as a chemist in online publications, has been a frequent, opinionated contributor to bodybuilding websites, including Testosterone Nation and MuscleMag International, often discussing in technical detail the pros and cons of various steroids and diet supplements. He wrote colorfully, sometimes with abundant expletives, describing his passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, high-performance cars, bull mastiffs, and sex.

But at Blue Hills Village, the quiet apartment complex on Randolph Street in Canton where Kneller lives, neighbors said he was a friendly, polite man who never bothered anyone and lived peacefully with his wife. Several were shocked to learn of the allegations against Kneller.

''My jaw just kind of dropped," said Lisa Miller, 34, who lives below Kneller's second floor apartment. ''It's scary. . . . I don't think it's really hit me yet."

Kneller, who is not a bodybuilder but wrote once about his struggle to lose 25 pounds quickly, often used the pen name ''Brock Strasser" in online magazines. Those who know him from the world of bodybuilding supplements describe him as an intelligent writer who liked to provoke controversy.

In a 1998 column for Testosterone Nation, the credit line described him as holding a degree in nursing and working at a biopharmaceutical company in Cambridge. The article said he had researched diet supplements for more than 10 years and worked in drug development for more than four years.

Stephen Schmitz of Bedford met Kneller years ago when both worked at a biotech company. Yesterday, he said he was surprised to hear about the charges.

''I don't believe that the charges are true," he said. ''Bruce is a very bright guy."

In October, the Washington Post paid a researcher to test diet supplements, including two made by Applied Lifescience Research Industries Inc., a Las Vegas company linked to another supplement company, Gaspari Nutrition in Neptune, N.J., for which Kneller was a consultant. After the Post reported that the researcher found steroids in the ALRI supplements, Kneller and an ALRI official responded in an open letter to the Post.

''None of the compounds we have developed and currently market are in current violation of any controlled substance act at either the federal or state level," they wrote.

The company, however, stopped making the supplements.

‘Guru’ boasted on ’Net of Chinese connection
By Laura Crimaldi
Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - Updated: 12:12 AM EST

Just four months before his arrest on charges he was running a steroid distribution center that reached bodybuilders nationwide, the man prosecutors labeled the “steroid guru” boasted he traveled to China to handpick supplements.
“Last year I was in China more than I was in the United States,” said Bruce Kneller during an Oct. 14, 2005, interview broadcast live on bodybuilding.com.
In the interview, Kneller talks about how he travels to China with his wife, Junhua Zhang, a Chinese national, to select his products.
A registered nurse in Massachusetts from 1997 to 2000, Kneller was billed as a chemist during the broadcast.
“What we are ordering and designing is what they are actually getting . . . The quality of the manufacturing plant is akin to something you’d find in the United States. You’d be surprised. In some of these Third World countries how dirty and unclean. It’s not what you really would expect from a plant that’s manufacturing pharmaceutical ingredients,” Kneller said.
Kneller was interviewed alongside Rich Gaspari of Gaspari Nutrition. A label for Oxavar, a pro-anabolic agent sold by New Jersey-based Gaspari Nutrition, was among the items seized by investigators searching Kneller’s Canton apartment.
Aside from working as a staff columnist for Muscular Development Magazine, Kneller also wrote for Muscle Media and Testosterone Magazine. His family declined comment yesterday at Stoughton District Court.

Why do I have a bad feeling he(bk)has a pocket full of dimes that are about to get dropped? Due to all the charges against him, I could see him fully cooperating with the le and causing alot of people alot of trouble.

Besides this, it just disgusts me to read some of the stuff in the articles. Such as the neighbor saying it was scary that the big bad steroid man lived below. And "public safety issues"...I'm waiting for them to start burning people at the stake, after all it is a witch hunt.

GrossSize-- believe me, I was trying to remember, but all I can recall were the visuals and some of the press release that was read. I can guarantee the Gaspari labels they showed were either black & white or monochromatic, maybe green and black on white like Novadex.

They show the label for a split-second, just after they show "file" footage of ampules & needles like what you typically see on the news when refering to roids.

The Gaspari product was Oxavar.

He's out on $25k bail......which is pretty darn odd for someone (1) who brags about his foreign connections; and (2) who is facing serious state and federal charges. I'm glad he got out but he certainly seems like he'd be a flight risk to me.

Why the hell was he living in a crappy little apartment? He has to have made some serious change from his legitimate business ventures plus whatever he was allegedly bringing in from this side venture.

The guy is very abrasive and has made enemies, but this is just sad. I wish him the best.

Well, if 4 different law enforcement agencies swooped down on my upstairs neighbor, arrested him, pulled out ten illegal guns and 100,000 illegal drugs, I'd be concerned as well.....wondering just what the hell was going on near my children.

The full story is more complex but that's all the neighbor knows as the news media stick a camera in their face while feds haul boxes of illegal drugs from the home (probably wearing hazmat suits).:run:

Guys, he ran a full-blown underground lab (the news said in his kitchen, LOL) where he made steroids and sold them on the internet. His company was known as Red Star of China. I didn't know he was the RSOC guy until I heard it on the news. RSOC was a reputable UG lab that had been operating for several years on the net, they were pretty selective about taking new customers and kept somewhat of a low-profile, but got popped anyway. Anyone with half a brain should realize that if you are going to deal AAS/drugs, you WILL EVENTUALLY GET CAUGHT, I don't care who you are. As for someone ratting him out, well, I don't know anything about how they got him. But BK did make plenty of enemies online, so maybe someone tipped off the authorities. That type of behavior is despicable no matter what the reasoning behind it, but some people are just plain evil. For all we know it was just an undercover agent or could've been a fellow competitor (read: another UG lab or supplement company person who disliked him or wanted his business).

This case has nothing to do with pro-steroids/pro-hormones from what I understand. Red star labs sold a LOT of tabs of dbol, anavar, winstrol, anadrol tabs as well as cialis (which was mentioned in one of the news vids online). I'm willing to bet the 100,000 pills they found were all AAS like the aforementioned. He also made/sold a few injectables; equipose, some high dose masteron, and also something called "sustanon xr dry"-- a blend of different tests--prop, cyp, decanoate that contained arimidex as well (hence the dry label). I got this info from his last/latest list that he had sent out.

I never orderd from RSOC, but I know he was planning a huge sale starting march first and most likely the law enforcment agencies decided to hit him when they were sure he had a mountain of evidence for them to work with. Makes sense that they caught him with so much stuff because from the list I read for the march-may sell it sounded like he was planning on dumping as much stuff as possible. There was a blurb in one of the news clips that mentioned records of over 15,000 steroid-related transactions involving him that were recorded over several years. Not good. If I were a recent customer of his i'd be a little worried, thank goodness I'm not (and if I'd known it was BK behind RSOC labs I wouldn't have wanted anything to do with his stuff anyway).

I hope this doesn't bring more unwanted attention to PH/PS because of his involvement there but AFAIK this case is about his lab and selling roids via the internet. I'm sure one way or another the connections he has to the supplement industry will be discovered and some beyotch like amy shipley will have a heyday with it. Again, I never liked the guy but you gotta admit he was an innovator in the supplement industry and will be missed, presuming he ends up behind bars with all the evidence/charges against him.

Good luck to BK, he's going to need it.

Thanks for the info. I was just about to post my own 2 cents on this topic, which would have been: Bruce Kneller was selling real steriods, not stockpiling anything remotely legal.

Not quite, been around for years apparently.
"Up and coming" as in gaining popularity and availability. They have been in existance for a while. Romero (his buddy) was pimping them in his MD (which BK used to write for too) articles long ago. At the time, I wondered why he was promoting such an obscure, new UG lab. Well, its pretty clear now.

"charged with possession with intent to distribute steroids, ten counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and violating a Drug Free School Zone."

Not to slam BK but it looks like he had it coming. Some of the details of this case are insane. Hes operating out of his apartment RIGHT FUCKING ACROSS FROM A HIGHSCHOOL. Why not just carry around a giant sign that says "**** ME" on it.

That alone is a major charge - "violating drug free school zone". That is not good. Then top it off by having 10 unregistered guns. 10 guns... wtf, why? Some states have 1 year mandatory for an (thats 1) unregistered gun. He would have been fucked even if he WASNT operating a lab out of his fucking kitchen. You couldnt even write a worse scenerio. Wait, maybe if he had a few minors chained up in the basement. I can only imagine he might have been selling the guns also. Otherwise he is just an idiot. I'm sorry but I am just shocked that he would get himself in so much trouble if he was so brilliant. He could have simply advised and and directed (setting up chinese chem contacts, instructing on formulating etc.) w/out ever actually getting his hands dirty. He would have still got a decent cut out of the operation and remained fairly "detached". But no, this guy is fucking cooking **** in his kitchen? It might as well be Meth. He is so fucking screwed it isnt even funny.

No matter how clever you are, no matter how you start, no matter what your profession, no matter how you pay the bills, if GREED is the root of your motivation then yours is coming one way or another. We see it time and time again. It ranges from avg. joes selling rec drugs to high level execs "cooking the books". BK has nothing to blame but his own greed and stupidity. He wasnt starving, he had a growing career and reputation in the industry. I am sad to see him go out like this but it has to be said.

Well, I dont know what the cost of living in Canton MA is, but I know that here in Boston MA, you have to practically be a quadrillionaire to live in a really nice place. At least in Back Bay, or Beacon hill areas. (as if it were some sort of great place to live in or something.) Most places that even come close to Boston living prices have at least a few redeeming qualities. But not here. I mean c'mon the Red Sox? They may have broken the curse, but the dont come close to compensating for the immense insolence this town reeks in other aspects. Sh#t, when the Sox play, that just means I have to wade through a sea of drunk people on my way to the gym. LOL!

Anyway I though that the line "we do think that there is a tremendous public safety issue attached to this." was contemptable, unless their referring to the possibility of BK using the firearms they were confiscating on another human being, wich I doubt is what they meant. Only "insiders" who have allready been taking a close look at AAS can even figure out how to get in good with any of theese UG labs. Its not like he was over at the highschool football field cloaked in a black hood with ominous music in the backround. And Saying "hey kid, what would you say if I told you that you could make varsity AND maybe even MVP this year?"

I hate to pick this apart and be hypercritical, but that portion of the video clip is file footage and is not what I saw.

Just trying to shed some more light on exactly what, if any, Gaspari products Brucie Boy was busted for.

I saw unused, uncut labels on a table, a stack of them, looking like they just came off a printing press. They looked to be about 12" long (remember, they have to wrap around the bottles) and 4" high.

I will poke around channel 4's website to see if I can find a video there.

And to the person who sent me that little message...thanks, and yes I am the same methusaleh who was on Atomic and who's on BulkNutrition.

That low a bond on charges like these suggests he's being cooperative, that he's going to be taking others down with him.

"To build their case, federal authorities said, they ordered illegal steroids over the Internet from e-mail addresses linked to Kneller."

Bruce was caught using multiple usernames on BB to slam others with, apparently he never learned how to cover his tracks.A high profile and poor operative skills, a bad combination for those associated to him.

As a buyer, don't EVER communicate with a seller from an IPA that can be traced to you, think TOR or Kinko's and the like and don't EVER receive merch at an associated mailbox, think vacant apartment boxes that are used for a week or two and always keep your mouth shut about your activities. Plan your work, work your plan.

It's also wise to know one's state laws on quantities that are considered personal use and distribution levels, and break up caches and transportation into possesion sized amounts.

BK was always thought to be RSOC by the more "in the know people." Hell, he even used to conduct fake interviews with himself in issues of MD in order to self-promote his business...you could see right through it...you could also tell that RSOC had a lot of the same mannerisms that BK use when typing/speaking.

THis whole thing was an internet operation. I don't believe anyone was ratting, I just believe that these sourcing boards are being monitored by feds all day long, if you don't think so then you are VERY naive. I believe that feds also drew the connection (BK to RSOC) and since he was such high profile, they wanted to take him down next. You see, the feds/dea don't want the smaller guys, they only go after the BIG fish. It's not worthwhile for them to worry about smaller ****, it's hardly even worth it to them to bust the bigger fish unless they can get the person(s) on tax evasion, etc...

The suprising thing to me is that BK shuld have known MUCH better. He DOES know better, and some of the things he does is just mind numbingly stupid.

I never liked BK, I never liked "phil", but what I can say is that I wish him all the best and that I hope and honestly don't think he will rat, but who knows.

Remember guys, this isn't the first big bust, and it CERTAINLY isn't the last, big fish get it the most (if not the only) so use your damn head when conducting yourselves, choosing your friends and choosing your enemies, and last but not least, stay low and off people's minds.

Bruce will expose every associate and customer he can, he'll do anything he can to lessen the very long sentence(s) he's facing.

Almost nobody stays uncooperative anymore. The conviction rates are too high and the sentencing penalty for being a tough guy too harsh, the various ethnic forms of Omerta are long gone and Witness Protection is avaliable to those who are under real death threat, which is unlikely the case here.

News reports said investigation began with a tip to police in 2004. Once the police know who to watch, then it's just a matter of time watching and collecting evidence. BK apparently personally mailed packages from a post office where postal inspectors opened them and confirmed their contents.

Yikes, and this doesn't even mention the applicable federal charges:

"According to the district attorney, Kneller does not have a previous criminal record but now is facing a maximum of 10 years in state prison for three counts of procession of large capacity firearms, two years minimum or 15 years maximum for drug-free zone violation, and two nine month misdemeanors for possession and distribution of class E drugs. "

What was he thinking doing this stuff?

I don't think this alone would establish him as the user of the email accounts, since LOTS of people in cities contact hushmail and cyber-rights anyway, and those services don't log which IP applies to which account (hushmail DOES log which IP's visit them, but only as a general list of IP;s, not as a list that connects each IP to each account--and besides, using a proxy takes care of that anyway).

I guess it'd more likely be the 2004 tip that would have done it.

I can see what you mean, what I mean by 'Connection records" is not just finding out where he goes, but also reading the content, everything from start to finish as needed.
