A shocking allegation was made Thursday as the frontman of a Grammy-nominated Christian metal band faced a judge in an alleged murder-for-hire plot.

Not only did the prosecutor charge San Diego-based musician Tim Lambesis with trying to arrange the murder of his estranged wife, she also claimed the man known by fans around the world for his faith recently said he no longer believes in God.

NBC 7: Local Musician Arrested in Murder-for-Hire Plot
Local musician Tim Lambesis appeared tired and expressionless in the Vista courtroom Thursday.

Lambesis, in custody since his arrest Tuesday, was ordered to be held on $3 million bail after a quick arraignment in a Vista courtroom.

The frontman for the Christian metal group As I Lay Dying, entered a not guilty plea to one charge of solicitation of murder.

Lambesis, an alum of Santa Fe Christian High School, was just about to join a summer tour with the band when he was arrested in Oceanside by San Diego County sheriff's deputies.
Prosecutors claim Lambesis approached someone from his gym on April 23 and allegedly asked if the person knew anyone who could kill his wife. The metal rocker was motivated because he felt it would be better for the children to have a healthy relationship with one parent prosecutors allege.

Then on May 7, he met with an undercover agent named “Red.”
Lambesis allegedly told the agent that he wanted his wife "gone" and to "never see her again" prosecutors said.

When asked if he wanted her dead, the defendant replied, “Yes, that is exactly what I want,” Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso said in court.

Prosecutors claim Lambesis provided the undercover agent with an envelope containing $1,000 cash for expenses, his wife’s address and gate codes, pictures of her and specific dates when he would have the children and thus, an alibi.

“He has provided the means, the money, the pictures, the address, the gate codes, the times,” Grasso said.

His estranged wife, Meggan Lambesis, lives in Del Mar with the couple's three children ages 4, 8 and 10. She had filed for divorce in September to end the couple's 8-year marriage according to court documents.

Grasso said Meggan Lambesis is in seclusion and terrified there may be other hits still outstanding.

In the divorce records obtained by the Associated Press, Meggan Lambesis claims the rocker had become "obsessed with bodybuilding" and was distracted with the children, even falling asleep once while watching them.

She also claimed he has spent thousands of dollars on tattoos.
In an email sent in August, Lambesis told his wife he had been having an affair and no longer loved her the prosecutor said in court.

“He also told her he no longer believes in God,” Grasso said.
The divorce and custody issues are still pending.
Members of the band, family members, friends and a number of supporters filled the gallery in court. Among them were Lambesis' high school basketball coach and religion teacher his defense attorney said.

In arguing for reasonable bail, high-profile criminal attorney Anthony Salerno told the judge Lambesis has no criminal history whatsoever.
“Even assuming the allegations are true, the dangers are very particular to one person and not to the community at large,” Salerno added requesting a bail of $250,000.

Heavy metal singer Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying has pleaded not guilty to plotting the attempted murder of his wife.

The Grammy-nominated musician is alleged by prosecutors to have given an envelope containing $1,000 in cash to an undercover agent with instructions on how to kill his estranged wife along with her photograph, address, security gate code and dates he would be with their children to give him an alibi.

Prosecutors made the allegation in court yesterday just moments after Lambesis, 32, pleaded not guilty to solicitation of murder. A judge set bail at $3 million (£1.95 million) under the condition he wear a GPS monitoring device, and imposed strict travel restrictions.

The court heard that during a meeting with the undercover agent on 7 May, Lambesis was recorded as saying he wanted his wife killed, Claudia Grasso, a San Diego County prosecutor, said.

The attempted murder plot is alleged to have come about after the singer told a man at his gym on 23 April and again on 24 April that he wanted his wife killed. He is alleged to have complained that she was making it difficult for him to see their children and impossible to complete their divorce, authorities said.
Defence lawyer Anthony Salerno told reporters that Lambesis did not intend to harm anybody and was apparently set up by the man at the gym.

"Law enforcement was being fed something by someone that I strongly believe was a snitch, was out to save his own skin and was trumping things up, exaggerating things," Salerno said.
The lawyer declined to address specific allegations.

Lambesis was arrested on Tuesday at a store north of San Diego. If convicted, he could face as many as nine years in prison.
In court on Thursday, Lambesis stared straight ahead from behind a glass partition while supporters packed the room.

Grasso said the singer emailed his wife while on tour in August telling her that he didn't love her anymore, expressing that he wanted to end the relationship and that he no longer believed in God. Meggan Lambesis later learned her husband was having an affair and had been involved with "a string of women," the prosecutor alleges.

Meggan Lambesis said in divorce papers filed last Autumn that her husband had fallen asleep while caring for their three children near a pool and had spent endless hours at a gym and thousands of dollars on tattoos.
The musician's wife also said in the court papers that Lambesis toured six months a year and had taken two last-minute trips in a month to see a girlfriend in Florida.

Don't know if anyone's heard about it yet but they turned to the steroid defense in this case and successfully lowered Tim's bail by 1m. More demonizing of steroids, like we needed that. His attorney said that "His thought processes were devastatingly affected by his steroid use". Also apparently the fake hitman he hired stated the hit would cost 20k and he was willing to pay it. Here is a link where I got this(random google lol I don't go here for my news):

This is terrible. I was sad when I first read about it a few weeks ago. However, I'm not sure why some has turned this into a "make fun of Christianity" platform because a human being made a mistake.

Breaking news on Tim From As I Lay Dying

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=190627

According to Alternative Press, AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis has posted bail and is no longer listed as an inmate the Vista Detention Facility in Vista, California.

Lambesis was arrested on May 7 on suspicion of solicitation to commit murder for allegedly hiring someone to kill his estranged wife. He has pleaded not guilty.

The singer, who at one time has said he considered himself to be a Christian and acknowledged that he found inspiration for lyrical content from biblical texts, was taken into custody without incident at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Oceanside, California, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department.

Lambesis had his bail lowered from $3 million to $2 million during a May 17 bail review hearing.

Prosecutors initially requested that Superior Court Judge Martin Staven set Lambesis' bail at $20 million, saying the singer remains "substantially motivated to kill his wife."

Lambesis' defense attorney, Tom Warwick, had asked for bail of $250,000.

Warwick blamed Lambesis' steroid use for the alleged murder-for-hire plot. He also revealed that Lambesis was going through steroid withdrawal while in custody.

Lambesis' attorney said the "gym culture" led to "changes in [the singer's] physiological and mental status," with Tim's bodybuilding obsession causing him to go from 170 to 220 pounds after first taking supplements, then steroids. "[He] was not the same person. He was irritable and lost God."
