    Question Sugar alcohols and CKD


    So I just started my CKD and I have been looking for something to give me a sweet tooth fix. I found alot of sugar free candy but they all use sugar alcohols and under my impression those are still carbs. Do the sugar alcohols affect me in the same way carbs do and will they throw of my low carb days?

    yes, but each gram probably equals 1/2 to 2/3 a gram of CHO as they are used less effectively and processed different. For the AD stay away from them for the transition period atleast.

    wow. That really pisses me off. Anyone know of anything CKD friendly to get rid of a sugar craving?

    I do appreciate the responses. Its just really disheartening to know that I was depriving myself of so many good things and was actually taking in WAY more carbs than I thought. I realize that a LOW carb day is less than 100 grams but I was shooting for less than 50. Oh well. At least I know now. Still need to find a cure for the sweet tooth.

    riddle me this....does coke zero have carbs in it? I am pretty sure that uses sugar alcohols right?

    2 oz Fat free cream cheese
    2 Tbsp Natty PB of choice I think it is better with Chunky
    1 Scoop Chocolate whey
    Splash (1-2 oz) carb control milk (preferably chocolate) or skim milk if you have to, i think oyu could also use water it just to stop the whey from going to dust and going everywhere
    .5 tbsp of SF fat free pudding mix
    Blend in food processer taste amazing has like 7-10 carbs depending on type of mile used

    To my recollection, I don't believe I've seen a liquid sugar-free drink have sugar alcohols in it. Usually something like sucralose, aspartame, etc.

    I'm not sure how the alcohols would fare in a liquid product.

    There is one sugar alcohol, erythritol, that does get absorbed in the small intestine, but is excreted untouched through the urine.

    Well, I appreciate all the input guys. Im on week 2 now and it is both frustrating and difficult for me. I LOVE carbs. So that part sucks for the 5 weekdays. All the weight I lose through the week (5-7lbs) seems to come right back after my carb up. I know this must be glycogen restore but dammit I want some permanent weight loss. My carb up isnt really high either (400 grams fri. 500 grams Sat. 100 grams Sunday then back under 50 for the week. Any tips guys. I am considering transitioning into a TKD......any input?

    Low Carb Day Meal Plan
    Breakfast: 0530
    2 whole eggs w/ 2 egg whites
    1 cup LF cottage cheese
    1 TBSP LF shredded cheddar
    401 calories, 16g Fat, 13 carbs, 49g Protein
    Snack #1: 0800
    5 slices of turkey breast
    125 calories, 0g fat, 0g carbs, 30g Protein
    Meal #2: 1030
    1 string cheese
    1 tuna pack
    280 calories, 14g Fat, .5g carbs, 42g Protein
    Meal #3: 1230
    2 hard boiled eggs
    1 6oz chicken breast
    295 calories, 21g Fat, 2g carbs, 63g protein
    Snack #2: 1430
    5 slices ham
    1 string cheese
    230 calories, 11g Fat, 1g carbs, 32g Protein

    I am also wondering about Sunday. I read alot of posts were everyone low carbs mon-fri until fri. PM and carb up from Fri. PM until Sat-Midnight. How many carbs are you eating on sunday? I know this sounds stupid but I am really trying to make this work and need the help if you guys can give it.

    Right now 0 or 1g/lb in the first few meals, depending on how much as done on saturday, how depeleted I feel, and in my world how much I drank on saturday. But play around with it, I would say at a higher BF% you can get away with less carbs and a shorter carb up unless athletic performacne is a huge priority.
