time to do cardio? i only thought i had the same problem, when i did the following because in the summer i work 12-18 hour shifts for about 3 mths............so i would workout in the morning, give myself 1 hour(or so) to hit the gym that's 1/2 hour of weights (high intensity) very little rest between sets (1 min. max) then about 25 minutes of cardio (all on and empty stomach) and dude coming from a guy that for 3 months works 65 to 75 hours a week (Mon-sat.) do not come on this board talk crap to trip and saying "i have no time" ....if i complained or quit and made excuses everytime i was "too busy" I'd be stuck in the same position at my job and i would NEVER work out...it's real easy to get over-sensitive when someone works alot.....that might be why you responded the way you did....and that's forgiveable....but being blunt and to the point is not being cruel or a d***.

Say what? In ketosis your body uses fat stores and dietary fat as it's main source of energy. To use amino acids as you say, it would require gluconeogenisis, something you do not want on my particular diet... The only way it would do such a thing is if the diet was absent in fat as well as carbohydrates.

There you go with the health point. The body can go a lifetime without carbs. Inuit do it almost exclusively. If you are speaking of vitamin deficiency, that can be prevented with supplements. As I've said I've been CKD, ketogenic for over 6 years and my doctor says I'm the model of health. Go figure.

I did say "I disagree", and told you exactly why I feel that way.

And if I lashed out at you, you would know it.

I say you put up a picture of yourself to substantiate how worthy you are to be giving advice.
I'm familar with ketosis but I explained my point of reason. I don't need to go any further cause you just wanna argue. Looks aren't everything, I guess you haven't figured that out yet. I think all those low carb diets are making you cranky A large portion of people get cranky when they hit ketosis. I won't take it personal.

Dude, you're a trainer, not a nutritionist. Ubi isn't cranky. We just haven't had a Snuggle Club meeting in a while.

No, I am legally allowed to prescribe diets and supplements. I have also interned with a md/rd that has had over 40 years experience and labs. I know what ketosis is but i guess the point is being missed. My job is a personal trainer and that's were i make my living but as a personal trainer I give out advice that is healthy. There is no health risk by telling this man a 500 calorie deficit would be a good way to start. Going with such a low carb intake is another story.

I have read the reports on the effects that ketosis has on Seratonin. There is obviously some truth to that.

Flaw, in all seriousness, looks should play a huge role if you are shopping for a trainer. It basically shows that the trainer has a semblance of knowledge on how to get results, if only for themself as an individual. I would never ask for a session from a fat, weak trainer. Some people do, unbelievably.

Thank you for again bringing up your point regarding health.

I am simply asking for you to properly cite reputable reports/papers/assays/whatever on how ketogenic diets, or even Cyclic ketogenic dieting (with carb refeeds) is bad for your health. I know there is a lot of hearsay from people who are adamantly opposed to low carb diets, and that is understandable as their diet works for them. I just try to defend them as I have success, and am also in good health. I take offense to you saying it is unhealthy. I am simply asking you to prove this to me. This is the main reason why I addressed you in this thread. You took it as lashing out, so be it.

For example on weight training days I do 20-30 mins cardio after workout. Follow that with another 30 minutes or so later in the evening followed by only protein meals prior to bed. On non weight days, do the same just longer on the am cardio. Keep at it!
I also will repeat what my friends mentioned here. 100% agree with trippdog. For me Fasted cardio: HIIT first thing is the morning works like magic. AT first you`ll feel like someone literally tried to kill ya....but after a week you`ll really LOVE IT. Try it. Also make sure you get some good Green tea throughout the day.
Good luck.

When you have made the shift to being a fat burner, it doesn't matter what time of the day you do cardio as much. That is why I don't feel that doing morning cardio would be as beneficial, unless I was on a moderate carb diet.

I follow the max OT training style and a lot of the theories are much different from what you normally hear. It explains cardio should be spaced as far apart from weights as possible, instead of doing it right after weights which is what most people do. They also talk about not cutting sodium out of your diet as it aids in transporting nutrients to the muscle.

One thing I never understood is why training after weights is suppose to burn more "fat" calories??? I know that after doing weights your glycogen levels are depleted so energy is derived from fat more. But last time I checked there are only one type of calories you can burn. So who cares where they come from. Besides your body has to restore your glycogen levels throughout the day so you are burning more calories that way. Additionally you have a lot more energy doing cardio when you are still fresh and well nourished.

My conclusion is that cardio, no matter when you do it is all the same. HIIT is the way to go.
