Timing of insulin and post-workout nutrition.
My post-workout shake consists of whey protein, dextrose, maltodextrin, creatine, and glutamine (Though after reading everything YJ and others have posted, I have decided to finish my supply then discontinue.). I'm also type 1 diabetic, meaning I don't produce insulin. The insulin that I inject is a fast acting one, peaking in 20-30 minutes. Here's my question: Should I take everything (insulin and shake) at the same time? Or should it be like shake, then insulin 30 minutes later (or vice versa)?
Hopefully my question is clear; thanks guys.

The Axe Man Cometh!!
do you take Humalog or Type-R
It sounds like Humalog, if so take it at the same time as your shake.
If you take Type-R, take insulin first then after about 15-20 min. drink the shake
Hope this helps

Yep same time as the shake would be what I think is best.
You may want to talk to your doc though just to be on the safe side. I would assume you use it the same as you would for any meal though.

Actually I usually take it a few minutes before most meals, but that is because all I'm taking it for then is to lower the blood sugar that the carbs will raise. When I take it with creatine though I'm trying to make it as effective as possible as well as to lower what the dextrose and maltodextrin will raise.

Then probably what your looking for is your normal dose plus some.
I am FAR from a doctor but the dose seems fairly simple.
If you take your normal dose then everything is like normal, so start adding to the dose. Try your dose +3 iu and work up a little each time perhaps.

Why take destrose and maltodextrin, the reason most bb'ers take those carbs is to get an insulin spike. You have no difference in the way your insulin is released, if you are typeI it is all exogenous. If your feeling on the dangerous side, and you use a sliding scale dosage, you can take sightly more (2iu) than what you would need at about the same time as you take creatine. This should draw you into a slight "low" at the same time the creatine is hitting your bloodstream. THIS IS SOMETHING I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. If you do that just make sure you have some juice handy.

I also cannot see the point of taking dextrose or malto in a PW in general (but that's another story
). You are looking for a spike PW, and will get one with the insulin inject, no doubt about that.

I had asked this question here: http://www.anabolicminds.com/forum/s...&threadid=3572 and was told that they not only spike insulin but refill muscle and liver glycogen as well. Something that regular carbs can not do as well.
Is this false?
