Are preworkout carbs necessary while cutting?

I've always assumed they were without really thinking about it...

Just now though I was thinking that if one were in a calorie deficit, they most likely aren't going to be building any muscle anyway, so then their goal should be to maintain the muscle they already have, which is what their PWO and PPWO meal/shakes help them with... am I wrong? Should carbs always be consumed before lifting, even while cutting?

yep, those carbs will help you hold onto that muscle. Keep 'em!!
