Seems like the perfect carb..!!!!

  1. Seems like the perfect carb..!!!!

I have been experimenting with different carb sources.I am what's called carb sensitive,I will generally gain 5 to 8 lbs in a weekend after carbing up with,Rice, oatmeal, rice cakes, and pasta.I felt great but was holding alot of water. We all know how good oatmeal is and I eat it every morning, but I cant seem to eat it for lunch or dinner...

I started eating barley in a beef stock(I love the stuff) now my muscles are full but not noticing alot of water weight.According to the glycemic chart barley is way down at 25 on the scale, one of the lowest readings of all carbs.
Have any of you tried barley as a carb source and if you have share your thoughts..Thanks

Here some info as to health benefits:

  2. I was going to ask about barley and "barley water". I read about it in one of those old school BBing books and they made it sound like a staple food but did not explain why.

Interesting. Maybe Barley and beans for a carb up?

Bump for an answer to this question...this sounds very interesting.

  6. I love barley, it's like oatmeal for dinner - doesn't really lend itself to sweetening like oats do. It has a robust taste that goes really well with beef. I've mixed it with beans also. You should be able to buy it in the hot cereals section at the grocery store.

  7. Thanks intv..I'll have to check for it next time im at the store.

  8. I buy it in bulk and cook it like oatmeal or cream of wheat, then add splenda. It isn't as good as oats, but it is the best slow burning carb source there is, period.

  9. Hey Madman, does it have to be cooked or can throw it in a blender with my shakes like I would with oatmeal.

    BTW, that's an impressive GI
