    CKD question

So I first learned about this diet on these boards as so many members swear by it. I have been doing reading on the diet and it looks like all protein and fat and then carb load. My question is are vegtables considered a carb? I was going to follow a cutting diet I found and it looks to be a CKD type diet.. is it?
    Meal 1
    10 egg whites
    1 whole egg
1.5 cup steamed Broccoli or green beans or 12 oz steamed asparagus
    12 almonds
6.5 oz PEELED ruby red grapefruit or 99g blueberries

    Meal 2
    2.5 scoops Whey
4tsp peanut butter or 12 almonds
1 cup steamed Broccoli or green beans or 8 oz steamed asparagus

    Meal 3
7 oz grilled chicken breast or halibut/tilapia or Sirloin fillet or Tuna
    (albacore packed/canned in water)
1 cup steamed Broccoli or green beans or 8 oz steamed asparagus
2 tbsp peanut butter or 18 almonds

    Meal 4
    2.5 scoops Whey
1 cup steamed Broccoli or green beans or 8 oz steamed asparagus
2 tbsp peanut butter or 18 almonds

    Meal 5
7 oz grilled chicken breast or halibut/tilapia or Sirloin fillet or Tuna
    (albacore packed/canned in water)+ 5g GlutaForm
    12 almonds
1 cup steamed Broccoli or green beans or 8 oz steamed asparagus

    Meal 6
6 oz grilled chicken breast or halibut/tilapia or Sirloin fillet or Tuna
    (albacore packed/canned in water)
1.5 cup steamed Broccoli or green beans or 12oz asparagus
    3 oz avocado
6.5 oz PEELED ruby red grapefruit or 99g blueberries
and the diet reads every 3rd day u replace you last meal with a carb load meal and it looks like this...

must be eaten in this order.
1.5 cups steamed green beans or 12 oz asparagus
cup oatmeal (measured dry then add water and microwave)
6.5 oz PEELED ruby red grapefruit or 99g blueberries
    4-6 packets splenda for sweetening
    18 almonds
6 oz yam or sweet potato
2 tbsp peanut butter or almond butter
    4-6 packets splenda for sweetening
Is this essentially a CKD diet?

On a CKD diet you don't count the fiber in the vegetables.

That looks like the scivation diet. Which essentially has carb intake every 18th meal assuming 6 meals a day. That is not your standard CKD diet where its 5+days low carb followed by a 1-2 day carb load. The amount of sugar in that meal won't knock you out of ketosis for long.

Yeah, that is the scivation diet. Different than a standard CKD.

Thomas, in the CKD diet .. how long does the body generally go in ketosis for?.. I heard that it takes 2 - 3 days for the body to empty glycogen which leave the remainder two days in ketosis. i.e 48 hours of ketosis. Is this correct?

and also, on CKD, is it low carb Monday to Friday or is it NO carb?

During the initial induction it takes about 2-3 days depending person to person. It's not so much about emptying glycogen as it is lowering blood sugar, insulin and making the brain require the use of ketones to fuel itself for energy. Even though it's called ketosis, the main thing you are looking for is the use of free fatty acids. After your first carb load its easier to get into ketosis, but your body will still be using fat as a large source of energy during your carb load.

The It's more like 72 hours in ketosis after the first carb up, but around 5-6 days of using FFA's as a large source of energy.

It's always low carb, it's never 0 carb. At first I went 0 carb because I was concerned with ketones, but it doesn't work that way. You need to use the 20-30 carbs a day to get in micronutrients and fiber.

You might see better results extending the low carb period. Instead of 7 day cycle 10.

yea that is the scivation cut diet, so ckd goes 5 days with low carbs, how is the ckd carb load structured? and in a ckd diet can i eat green beans and other veggies or do they count as carbs? like would this be an approiate CKD meal, a can of tuna on a plate of lettuce with some sort of fat source like peanuts of bacon or would that meal need to eliminate the lettuce in order to meet the CKD criteria?

You eat however many carbs you like while limiting fat intake as much as possible. Some guys seem to get away with a henious amount of food without any noticeable addition in body fat.

    Lyle's Model -

Caloric intake = 26 X body weight first 24 hours
    15 X body weight second 24 hours

5 hours before the depletion workout
Ingest 25-50 carbs, bread, dextrose malodextrin type source and some protein to begin shift out of keto.

2 Hours before workout 25-50 grams of glucose and fructose combined to further the shift out of keto and refill liver glycogen.

First 24 hours (starting right after the depletion workout)
Carb intake roughly 70+ percent of the calorie intake, simple carbs
Fat+Protein=15 percent a piece (I would make a conscious effort to limit too much fat intake and to not over eat protein)

    Second 24 hours
Carb intake roughly 60 percent, complex carbs
    Protein 25 percent
    fat 15 percent

Then you shift back into keto

    AD style -
Eat until you see your muscles plump and filled but not bloated. Yes, he has a percent calculation thing too but the main idea is to hit this point.

    __________________________

These are the three most common ones you will see. Lyle's style is for beginners, high body fat and can't judge easily based on appearance. He does mention eating all you want as a style of carb loading and says it is easier mentally to do as well. However, eating whatever you want and the AD style are both dependent on people who know their body.
For CKD you eat carbohydrates, you do not count the fiber towards your total count. Tuna, lettuce, mayo, good meal. Salmon, asparagus and sprigs of parsely, good meal. You keep your carb count between 20-30 a day.
