"Our results show that cyclodextrins, such as HPþCD, can enhance dermal and transdermal drug delivery of lipophilic water-insoluble drugs, such as testosterone. At the optimum conditions, when just enough cyclodextrin is added to the aqueous vehicle to solubilize the drug, the cyclodextrins increase the availability of dissolved drug at the skin surface. However, addition of an excess cyclodextrin can result in reduced dermal or transdermal drug delivery"
