The new birth control patch. What is it's delivery method of hormones??

This is an effective delivery system, whatever it is. The new ortho patch delivers sustained release hormones of a course of week and is then switched out. Anyone down with the who, what, when and where of this?
 
I was always intrested in this cause my girl uses it. Unless im shootin blanks Id have to say it works quite well. only problem is it leavs a square mark on her every time she takes it off and she has all these marks on her back now because of it. dont know it its the adhesive or the hormones.

Im sure they will fade with time.
