I made a batch of test base with PhLojel and it came out very gritty. I used ethanol to levigate the powder and the powder and alcohol mixture got dry on the side of my mortar and that's what caused the clumps and grits. Then I tried to recover it. I read some posts and saw that some people have good result with a mixture of Phlojel and dermabolic carrier matrix so that is what I did: I add some Penetrate to my prepared gel to get a final product consisting of 30% Penetrate and 70% gel and shook it. There were still some clumps. And there came my big mistake. I heated the carrier/gel. I guess by doing this I've separated the component of the gel. Now I have a white cream in the bottom of my recipient and a yellowish liquid on top, but the powder is now totally dissolved. When I shake it I get a milky solution for about 20-30 minutes and then it crashes again.

What do you think? Should I shake it before each application and use it or is it ruined? In case it is still good to use how high should I estimate the absorption rate for this ruined gel?

Shake before use. Never use alcohol to levigate unless you are very adept and quick. It can evaporate too quickly like you experienced. Try getting some D-limonene for future use, works like a charm plus it smells good and is a PE.

Not using alcohol? definitely not anymore. I'll try to find some d-limonene. But it's hard to find. Or some DGME.

But I have read in some articles that DGME can hinder the absorption of some compound. I'm just wondering how good or bad it is for AAS. I know that some labs Pharm labs use it in their estrogen cream.

DGME is a great solvent but a mediocre penetration enhancer. With pharmaceutical topical preparations they aren't concerned so much about the flux of the system as they are about other properties.

Now knowing that DGME is a poor PE, is it still a good idea to levigate the powder with it before adding the PHlojel?

Depends on the powder. Test or Bold base, yes. I had some gritty compounds of both that DMGE improved. I have not used it in other compounds.

I understand that it will improve grittiness and ease compounding. But since it's not a good PE I was wondering it could hinder absorption at some extend.

I guess it would depend on the active being used. I do know a few people that have used it, myself included. I did not notice any dominished returns from batches that contained it and those that did not.
