The department is working with two universities to develop a "food patch" that can deliver nutrients directly to the skin under less-than-ideal dining circumstances. A "combat breakfast foods" program is also under way
That's from a news article on us.army.mil, anybody who works for the DOD might take a look at it. (non-DOD workers might, too, but you can't get on the site. Nyah! :p ) Haven't seen any of the technical papers on the project, but if we can make a home version of a patch that can deliver an entire meal transdermally, just think of all the possible applications!

Heh... wow... how far along is the development? The possibilities would be endless, but the practicality of homebrewing one of those patches seems to be a bit of a stretch. Still, fantastic possibilities!

As a veteran of 8 years of Army service and 2 campaigns I seriously hope they realize the small joy of WARM FOOD to a soldier. When terra firma is frozen solid for months on end the last thing you want to do is apply your breakfast and move on out. BUT, for those of us that take in 6 meals per day in the civialian world this would be a welcome addition ;)

i imagine they could come up w/ a patch that could deliver some vital minerals and vitamins (like a transdermal multivitamin), but actual transdermal meals??? there's no way that'll happen anytime soon.

Hey, I would be happy with an IV that I could "dial in" protein, fat and carb intake along with vitamins. It would make cutting so much easeir

As it is...I am trying to figure out something that could all fit in a gallon container..and i could drink thru the day. May be boring, but it would sure be efficient!
