HIIT - Elliptical

Tried an HIIT routine on the elliptical today.

15 mins long. First time I tried it on this piece of equipment. I set it on level 7 for about 2 mins, then bumped it up to 16 then back to 6 or seven after 60 secs. I did 7 repeats ranging from levels 16-20. I made it really hard on myself and I was smoked aterwards..., and it was only 15 mins. I dusted myself off with 20 mins on the bike at a moderate level. I must say I am not one that is used to the HIIT principles of training, but this really hit me hard! I seriously felt it in my my lungs and heart, which I haven't felt in quite a while. I had my doubts about HIIT on the elliptical, but 'am really excited to try it again! I am going to do it tomorrow. Then maybe one day this weekend as well.

Anyone got any suggestions on HIIT?

some of them have manual intervals, where you can program them to automate those sets. its kinda nice when you can do 1:30 on low with :30 on high

For my HIIT sets, I do 30 sec on level 18, then 60s on level 15. I do 10 cycles of this (Sometimes up to 12 because I lose count and make sure I do enough lol). I come off that elliptical huffing and puffing whereas all the people around me still have another 10-20+ minutes more on their slow easy stuff while I'm already done. The only downside for me is that when I do low-intensity cardio I can read, but doing HIIT I don't have the focus.
