Hey Bobo did you ever go to college for personal training? What did you go for(majors) and where did you go. My little bro is VERY interested in becoming one and hes a senior so hes gotta find out quick what stuff to take so he can become one. We live in Central New york and hed like to go somewhere around here if thats possible I dunno how much you know about it though... THANKS FOR YOUR HELP BRO

My degrees have nothing to do with exercise and sports nutrition but I did take a bunch of undergrad and grad level courses in that area.
If he wants the best education, get a 4 year degree from a University in an Exercise and Sports Nutrition Program. For answers to board issues, read the Suggestion and News forum at the bottom of the main page. -

I'm one of Bobo's clients, and I am an Exercise Physiology student myself. I'm still not 100% sure what I want to do with my degree. I'm leaning towards being a strength and conditioning coach for a baseball team or maybe even being a college professor. The idea of working in a gym has never appealed to me.

If he truly is interested in becoming a personal trainer and wants to learn how the body works etc then as mentioned exercise sports science/ nutrition degree is the way to go.
I'm in 1st yr physio, and our courses share a lot of the same subjects... some are interesting, others... well boring as bat **** for lack of a better word. It's very science based but most of the stuff is pretty cool - 09-28-2004, 06:22 PM

Your bro can also double major as a trainer and PE teacher since some of the courses are good for both majors, when I got my BS in Kinesiology (Teaching Concentration), I found out I only needed 18 units for the BS with a concentration in Exercise Physiology. That's one more year of schooling. Just a suggestion though, cause I know many people don't have the patience for teaching.

I have my B.S in Sports Physiology, the program I took was called Human Performance & Fitness.. I also have a certification from ISSA (CFT), and soon to get my cert. from NSCA as well..
You kinda don't really need a degree in personal training, but it never hurts.. - 09-28-2004, 11:30 PM
