Lying side laterals

  1. Lying side laterals

Exactly how effective are these compared to standing laterals?

  2. I swear by these things . We are talking about laying on your side on an incline bench, right ? As a downside they are also very effective at making annoying ass people come up to you, motioning for you to take the earbud out of your ear, and asking you "What does that do ?"

haha! I think I might have strained or pulled something, hopefully not b/c of these.

  4. is this lying on the incline bench with your arm straight on your side and lifting it over your head and down? Isnt this more for rotator cuffs?

  5. these are best done lying on your side, and stopping before your arm reaches 70 degrees or more from your body. This avoids any potential damage that might be done to the shoulder by regular standing lateral raises, and it even takes the traps out of the exercise (EMG studies have shown the lying side lateral to be a third more effective at activating the lateral head of the deltoid than standing lateral raises).

    Great exercise.

    Thx, good info.

How much on an incline should these be done at?

  7. Do them on the floor, no incline (hence lying side laterals). This is how physical therapists perscribe them anyhow. Seems to work for me...

Hmmmmm. I've always heard of them being done on an incline, but I'll try the latter as well.
