Back to ss? Starting strength....

  1. Back to ss? Starting strength....

    So I have a question..... I been training for 2 year and 4 months to this date.... And my progress has not been what I wanted.... Maybe becusse I'm always changing up what I'm doing.... Well it's time to get serious.... I was 200lbs am what I thought was Great but 20-25lbs of it was fat.... I'm down to 182lbs and not looking like what I thought I would after a cut..... I'm better but still not big per say compared to others at 175-180lbs.....

    So my question is I'm thinking of starting completely new.... Running starting strength and actually keeping a log book.... Starting very light.... So I might not gainiscle at first but I'll have a long way to go before I plataue..... What do you all think?

    My maxes are as followed which I think personally suck really really bad for someones who's 180lbs which is another reason to start over...

    Bench 215lbs
    Dead 285lbs
    Squat 260lbs

    I suck haha

    What do you all think?

    Also is this the right program?

    Workout A
    Squat 3x5
    Bench 3x5
    Deads 3x5

    Workout b
    Squat 3x5
    Overhead press 3x5
    Deads 1x5

    Asstence is pull-ups/push-ups

  2. I'm gonna give it a go....

    Starting at very small weight and going up every single workout......

    Goals!

    Bench 250x5
    Squat 320x5
    Dead 385x5.....

    I'm doing this becusse after looking at others 1rm at 180lbs most can bench close to 250lbs at least..... I'm at like 215 if that haven't tried in awhile......

  3. That's what I've been doing the last 7 months

  4. How's it working out for you?

  5. its been working great - I hit to PR's this morning

    for some people it may be too ho humm boring but I like the simplicity of it and I know it works until you hit deload a few times and even then you can simply lower sets / reps

    I can see another month or 2 for me on SS

  6. Sounds good that's almost a year of training... What did the big 3 go from? And I'm thinking that next workout you'll be busting another PR

    ^This is probably your problem.

    Stop switching from program to program. Pick something a stick with it. Most will work to some extent as long as you maintain a level of dedication.

    That said- starting strength, madcow 5x5, WS4SB and 5/3/1 are all excellent programs

    I dont have my logs with me at work but I will make some guesses

    I started with huge deload to make sure form was tight since I came from a bodyweight / military style training

    squat 3x5 135 -> 255 and still climbing
    DL 1x5 135 -> 235 and still climbing
    bench 3x5 95 -> 175 and still climbing
    OHP 3x5 85 -> 125 and almost time for a deload

    Im at about 203 lbs this morning and I'm probably 15ish% bodyfat definitely need to drop some of the slop, i just introduced cardio 2x per week a few weeks ago so hopefully that and a slightly cleaner diet help

  9. I have only been training since April 13th of THIS year... you gotta be doing something wrong. Not hating, just curious. In this time I've only had 2 routines. I also weigh 182lbs (6foot even) and I have no bulk to speak but my stats are where I would think they should be for only a few months of training:

    Bench: 195 1rm (started at 105lbs) estimate here, never 1 rm'd - I can do 185 5 times though
    Squat: 255 1rm (started at 135lbs)
    Dead: 375 1rm (started at 225lbs)

    I seriously am curious as to what you've been doing to put in all that time and not have what I would expect better results.

  10. I've been doing a 5-rep routine and i'm absolutely loving it. Really allows u to compare stats/progress. And it isn't high-rep where ur working towards stamina, and it isn't low rep where ur close to maxing out on every set. Gives good balance of strength and stamina, and works form too as u must do 5 strong reps. I've been seeing results
    -It's not about what you're doing, it's about how you're doing it.

  11. i thought my results where pretty good, I have been taking it nice and slow

    guess Im getting old LOL 35 yo

  12. you should stop saying you suck, your mental approach will dictate EVERYTHING else.

    i'm not huge by any means, but I pulled 500lbs for deads in June, and consistently use 405 for reps. It all started in my mentality... if i'm telling myself I suck - I'm sure as hell not pulling 500lbs.

    Don't worry about anyone else's numbers, or physique. You only have control of your own.

  13. Well today I pulled a dead of 385lbs 3 times.... Didn't know I could do that.... Then followed it up with a bench of 205lbs 5 times..... Guess I'm not in to bad of shape.... And as far as having two year in.... Wait untill the newbie gains stop.... It's alot harder from there.... But good job... Also I bulked up to 205lbs at one point.... Just finishing cutting to 182... So no hate taken....
