  1. Deadlifting with Straps- How much more weight?


    SO i finally bought some straps.. lifted for a good 12 years without them... i have no problems what so ever with my grips.. i only plan to use the straps for deadlifts and for bb rows over 300... My question is how much additional weight should i be using with straps? I dont wanna hurt myself by any means and over do it! Right now i can get 405 for 10 reps, with no straps.


  2. Scoot it up slowly, don't just randomly pick a number. Start where you usually would, and work your way up a bit higher this time till you find your spot.

  3. They help me out tremendously for bent over rows, but for deadlifts they're not usually the limiting factor for me. I feel like I can do more reps though with them, so maybe pick a 6 repper and go for 8?

  4. FWIW, I use straps on the DL when my grip starts to give out, but I feel/know that I can do more reps if grip wasn't the limiting factor.

  5. They make no difference for me with the DL or rows. I can hold on to any weight I can DL and row with proper form. Unless your rowing strength is obscene (i.e. at least 400+), I don't see a need for straps for rows either. You can build your grip up to hold 300+ with no problems. I might need straps for heavy barbell shrugs, but that's about it.

  6. I'd go in 25 pound increments, actually try 425, then 450, and see how it goes...if you can do 405 x10 I would think 500 w/ straps would be easy enough. Once I hit 500 my left elbow felt funny, IDK if it was like tennis elbow or not, but I think it was from the strap pulling on it since you don't use much for forearms with straps. So now I do the same weight, with just a couple less reps because the grip lets go first.

    Pretty much I stopped using straps like 2 weeks ago, is my point, LOL.

  7. someone somewhere once told me using straps can add about 90 lbs to your 1rep max dl
