Neck Workout?

Anyway workout the neck? If so, why? Should I be doing this?

I have been seeing more and more people using the machine that works the neck. Most of these people have no clue of what they are doing in the gym, but they really like working out their necks.
 
Neck work builds a huge yoke on you and will help you tons if you play any type of contact sport.
 
I've seen football players use a "neck-bridge" stance for bench. I.e. bridge your back so only your butt and head touch the bench, so the weight is largely supported by your neck.

Looks like a great way to really injure yourself, but isn't that what football is all about anyways? ;)

Yea, that does not seem pleasant.
 
Use to have a neck machine in football that they made us use, pretty pointless to emphasize on your neck unless you play a contact sport..
