training cycle length?

Is a six week on/ one week off a good approach to weightlifting for the long haul. I know its important to take a recovery week every now and then for long term gains but was wondering if this was too often. Would like 8 on/ 1 off or even 12 on/ 1 off be more successful? thanx:think:

all work - it really depends on what is best for you. most of us take that week off to rest and evaluate our workout and do minor tweaks to it. rest, but don't go back and do the exact same workout. minor changes, or major changes, just change something.
