Whey Protein: Before Workout and Other Questions relating to whey

Is a whey shake truly necessary before workout? Could a good preworkout snack replace this (Turkey sandwhich on whole wheat, a fruit, some water)?

How long after a workout is too long to get an immediate effect for whey (I heard 30 minutes but i want to know if that is accurate).

How many g of whey should you intake Post-workout?

Any rare known facts about whey that could increase gains? (anything, really. except the obvious).

    thanks,
    Paul

-I saw Dexter Jackson work out today at the World Gym in Jax Fl. Pretty big dude. I just thought that was cool, but irrelevant to the post.

This is what I recommend.. I derived this from Nutrient Timing, by John Ivy and Robert Portman..
10 Minutes Pre – During: Sip on a shake consisting of…
    • 6 grams of whey protein
    • 24 grams of dextrose
    • You want to finish this by the end of your exercise session.

    Post:
Immediately post: Down a shake consisting of…
    • 15 grams of whey protein
    • 50 grams of dextrose

2 hours post: Down a shake consisting of…
    • 14 grams of whey protein
    • 4 grams of dextrose
    • And a meal consisting of carbs and protein (minimal fat)

i never take protein b4 my workout...but 30 minutes b4 my workout i do take 7grams of bulk leucine with my preworkout shake which consists of 5grams of creatine, 2.5 grams of glutamine, 2 grams of beta-alanine, 3 grams of taurine, 400mg icarrin, 2 grams of AAKG, 50mg of niacin...then exactly one hour and 15 minutes or after 12sets (half my workout) after i take my first shake i ingest a second shake during my workout which is 18grams of waxymaize, 2grams of creatine, 3grams of leucine, 2grams of taurine...then my post workout is just EAA's with extra leucine and 30 grams of waxy maize with creatine, taurine, glutamine then 45 minutes after taht i take a protein shake of 35 grams of whey... then 1 hour after that i eat a meal with 50 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs....

i dont think what Ozarkabrand said is enough of anything...i do take ALOT of stuff but i do 24 sets per bodypart so maybe its just me...hope this helps...

I used to take 25g whey an hour before my workout but now I just eat a big lunch which is 2 hours before.

After my workout I take in 50g whey.

Any lean protein source is fine for pre workout.

Don't be overly concerned with the "anabolic window" post workout. Just eat when you get home.

I like to to in 30-50 grams of mixed protein sources about an hour to 1.5 hours before my workout. I then take in the same amount 30 minutes or so after my last set.

Dexter is a "pretty" big dude? LOL what is a really big dude than ?

Having a solid meal before a workout is definitely an option. I know lots of people like eating a fruit (eg. banana) and hour before working out. I personally have a massive bowl of oatbran and whey +berries 90 minutes pre-WO. The important thing is to not eat something too large/too close to your workout that will hinder your performance in the gym.

If your not taking pre-workout whey, you will see a change in how you work out and how you feel if you add protein...

I went from Cellucor M5 and Ripped Fuel only to Pure protein bar (20g of protein) with the other stuff pre and then Post workout I have 36g of designer whey protein shake and a banana.. I have had huge gains since the increase of protein that I have... Try to have as much protein as you can in a day especially before and after workout.. Don't over do it, normally 1g per pound you weigh will be just fine...

PS.. Get a good nights rest because that means the world to your body and workout!

Ok, I guess a more accurate description would be this: Every muscle was cut beyond definition. Ridiculous muscle size. Shorter than expected.

Yea sounds about right lol. I like how Dexter is though compared to the other pros, he isn't to a point where its disturbingly big.
