5-HTP - Libido Booster?

Ive been searching around the internet for a while now and I found that 5-htp has been used to help mens and womens libido problems....I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this coming off a cycle..etc...
 
dunno about this use, but I learned recently that high doses (about 900mg/day) has been proven effective for weight loss. Seems like that'd be enough to put me out. Maybe you're so sleepy you don't eat, or something... ;)
 
100 mgs puts me down pretty well..but I've never used it long term nor have I noted any libido change. A rise in serotonin levels might help some people in that department though.
 
well it is in my Grandpa's home remedy, I was theorizing longer lasting in bed type of thing, due to higher serotonin levels. And the thought of the happy drug flowing through, should help with labido, hopefully resolving stress issues causing loss of labido.

Also Im in PCT, and feeling just as great as I was on.

are you refering to serotonin or "the happy drug"? Should someone be using 5htp after taking something like MDMA?

I ment serotonin... but that is what MDMA does anyway... just FLOODS your brain with serotonin... afterwards can leave you feeling quite depressed... 5HTP seems to help some feel normalized while their receptor, and serotonin levels normalize.

Actually I have read that it's a good idea to take 5-htp after coming off mdma.
 
actually maybe a slight boost in libido(actual desire for sex) but abuse can lead the other way and lead to sexual disfunctions the same as seen with MDMA
 
5-HTP is used primarily for depression and normalizing sleep patterns. In fact, it is recommended to be taken just before bedtime because it will knock you out. Some studies have shown it to be effective as a weight loss aid. I can't find anything about boosting libido.

Could you define abuse? How much and for how long?

(p.s. I figure you're referring to difficulty ejaculating.)

Custom has it in powder... cant beat the price. Or you can buy it capped from primaforce (Scivations sister company)

One time this happend to me. I decided to take 300mg of 5-htp with a strong co-enzyme b-complex. My libido was ridiculous for about 2-3 hours. I couldn't stop thinking about a co-worker. At normal doses 100mg 3x a day with the b complex I didn't notice much. I think the higher amounts at the right time on a empty stomach can do the trick.

my understanding was that it was a natural alternative to antidepressants without the negative side effects some may have to lower your libido. but i am not familiar with it being known for increasing it. it will give a sense of relaxation which may lead to better attititude or mood for sex.
 
I tried 5-HTP once and I noticed a drop in libido so I never took it again. I like Phenibut better. It makes me sleep good and I notice that it increases libido and staying power.

I have actually found that 5HTP is working to curve my libido quite a bit which has in turn helped my mood a little bit since I am not obsesing abour sex anymore. I am taking 200mg a day single time release pill at night. I have noticed the sleepiness though. is that dosage to much?
 
I don't know if this helps or not - but I think it may help with libido. I am taking 500mg 5-HTP, 500 mg Tryptophan, 3 mg of Melatonin and 2 caps of ZMA at night. My sleep has been great, so has libido. But at the same time I realized that I was deficient in calaorie consumption (to the tune of several hundred in the red), so eating more calories probably has something to do with my increased libido (and hardness) as well.

Whatever it is/they are - I like the affects.
 
Took 300mg 5-htp yesterday and within 30-40minutes I got a erection and libido went up. It also seems to numb the penis a bit and definitely will help you last longer. I posted at thread about this not too long ago. It may not work the same for everyone though and sometimes it doesn't work as well.. Depends on how empty the stomach is for sure.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but was wondering if there is any more feedback with regards to libido.
