You have to figure since we feed them basically one kind of food their whole lives that if anybody has some nutrient deficiencies..it's pets.
Bioman, you (or anyone with a dog for this matter) should look into some of the non-mainstream dog foods. I specificially use Innova Nutura. Alot of the chain pet stores (Petsmart) don't carry it around where I am but if you find a good privately owned pet store, they might have it. Or goto
Invalid Link Removed to find a store in your area that carries it. Anyway I did some research on dog food and other pet nutritional things awhile back (since I felt my dog's health was just as important as mine as he is a part of the family) and found some disturbing things about the regular dog food that is on the market. Anyway, without getting into that whole topic, I found this dog food and it contains alot of the things which are missing in your regular dog food such as omega 3 fatty acids from both fish oil and flaxseed, glucosamine, chondroitin, ground brown rice, apples, carrots, cottage cheese, alfalfa, garlic, taurine, vitamins/minerals, etc...along with quality meats. No artificial ingredients, chemical additives, byproducts or fillers. Their philosophy is that they would only use ingredients that they would eat themself.
Anyway, after feeding my dog this for a month, his coat noticibly changed, he was/still is full of energy, and he just a very healthly looking dog. I got one of my friends to start using it who has a small dog which was getting tear stains (brown colored streaks on the hair on the face of a white or light colored dog)...she tried a number of commercial products which was supposed to reduce or get rid of the stains but they didn't work....within one month of feeding the new food, they almost completely disappeared.
Sorry to go on and on but, this only costs me about an extra $5 per month for the food for my dog which is nothing especially considering that I would pay alot more to keep him around as long as possible. I won't ever feed him regular dog food again.
