Wanted to post this real quick with people getting ready for "get ripped & jacked season"

I consume between 30-45gr of fat from MCT oil or coconut/day and I am still in ketosis.

People have some what if a "what if" about this in the past. I just wanted to post this for my AM bro's

I'm also eating carbs, lost of them too. More to come on that

Fairly easy to do with the right supplementation and diet

I never remove coconut oil from my diet

Been using coconut butter mixed with pb.

I drink tea with it and notice a hue increase in temperature. When no coconut butter I don't feel that huge increase

Oh for sure man, but its a bit more advanced of a plan. As I'm sure you're aware.

I'll have to try that mix.

I just wanted to share my experience. I know when I started carb cycling I never got a concert answer about Mct/coconut oil.

Rest assured bothers, they're g2g!

I eat coconut oil everyday, I rub it all over in the winter, you can even wash/condition your hair with it or make your teeth oh so sparkly before entertaining a big time client or heading to the club. Closest thing to a panacea on earth and I won't leave home without it. I used to be nervous flying with it but I've never had an oil spill in my luggage to date.

what a weird thread.

carbs in ketosis.. (unless ckd is right - then, okay; otherwise, no)

and insinuating mct's will knock you out of ketosis?

never heard of either

If you don't do refeeds with carbs you can have quite a bit of carbs once you have adapted to ketosis.

A quick google will show some results that it's a common concern amongst the low-carb community, I was surprised myself.

Just wait snags, here's a baby pre-view

'quite a bit'?

you'll need to stay under 100g daily, and more likely ~85g

popular target is 50g or less/day

60g glucose in & of itself will not knock you from ketosis, of course not.

Can you define what quite a bit of carbs is to you?

Yup.. maybe I used a poor choice of words but I would say 100g would qualify for "quite a bit" since typical one following a CKD approach avoids all carbs like the plague.

So when a guy following a ketogenic diet is allowed 100g CHO from potatoes and rice I would say this would count as "quite a bit" no?

To me quite a bit is 300-400g like in a bulk. But I suppose it depends on what context you put it in.

When I was cutting for comp season I was doing slightly less than 100g and that didn't feel like quite a bit at all

Again we are talking about ketosis here are we not? So in the CONTEXT of a ketogenic diet where dieters are trying to keep CHO intake to less than 30g of TRACE carbs the idea that they can have around 100g of rice a potatoes I feel would qualify as "quite a bit" to them

ketosis is hit from blood glucose standard the way duchaine viewed it at a 50-60mg/dl

If that's truly the case then I've eaten what I would say is quite a bit and was back in ketosis ( from blood sugar point of view rather then a measured ketone pov) within 2 hours

in the context of the general populations understanding of what ketosis truly is, i guess.
trying to avoid carbs like the plaque and being <30g daily is non-essential and a wasted effort.

That's bc you're older & wiser, us dumb young kids hear a lot :p

couple yrs back, i lived a keto/semi-keto lifestyle for almost 4yrs straight..
i've tried stretching the barriers in these dietary approacesh in various ways, but the best i've come to find that allows for muscular retention with maximal sustained leanness (and i'm talkin very lean here), is a variation of what i call the Beverly Diet.

basically, under 100g carbs daily, hi protein, hi (good) fats
every 3-4 days, you have an all-carb meal as last meal of day (banana/sweet potato/oatmeal or rice, plus some veggies) + some fat
maybe 1x weekly you can have a free-eating window for couple hrs

food choices are clean of course --> this is a combination of concepts i used for contest prep so it is meant to be "strict" (by some ppl's context)

i learned the basics from Beverly back in the 90s...i think scivation also came out with version very similar ~5yrs ago or so

that recipe kept me insanely ripped, for many many many months on end....

Your lean off-season, isn't very lean......it's frighten outrageously lean!

When you say Beverly, in regards to Beverly International? I know a lot of their nutrition persons recommend the same ideas as you mention above. Could just be a coincidence but

we all have different context/ideas of what qualifies as lean..i'm a lil on the extreme side of that context, yes :p

bingo
they have a number of diet plans that they have now accumulated thru the yrs, and have direction for any goal you want to accomplish
IMO, they have absolutely no peers when it comes to perfecting this approach, for virtually any bodytype in existence
classy company..products are all pretty solid as well (albeit a bit ridiculous in pricing, some of them)

Well, you're doing an outstanding job my friend. I know my coach used them as a reference when doing my prep diet. I love some of their supps, mostly Mass Aminos/Ultra-40's. agreed with some of their pricing.

Thanks for the input snag!

What's the protocol like for MCT? I recently bought a bottle from NOW Sports. Should I dose in the morning? Preworkout? Postworkout? Please forgive my ignorance on the topic.

Morning and preworkout. Be warned, start with 1 table spoon because it will kill your Gi tract if you're not used to it. Work your way up to 3-4 table spoons if you can handle it.

The Solution knows a lot about mct oil. He helped me with a diet on it back in an older thread. I replaced about 200-300 kcal with mct oil during
My
Bulk and maintained my leanness

interesting, i noticed this when i supplemented with mct oil as well in a post workout shake, followed by a high carb + pro meal an hour later, now that i think about it. i actually scrapped it to add a bit more size while on cycle with real food. see if no mct will make a big difference. def throwing it back in when i cut
I'm using it now to get a few more calories in and it's working well. Also it's a great thermo'

true. i mean i am recomping right now, maybe i'll toss it in to get kcals up and recomp even more? think that would work?
Yeah it would. Mct oil has a different pathway than regular triglycerides. Add some in little by little and if you look like you're gaining fat then stop. But I doubt you wil, the thermo effect should help lean you eat while gaining Mass from the exta calories.

Never understood how that worked. Leaning out while adding mass from an oil
Because it's a thermogenic and it's 7 calories from fat. However it's MCt, it's pathway and ending point is different. I forgot the mechanism for it though, but it isn't stored.

Interesting. So you get 100 calories for example so to speak, but it'll either be used for energy or pissed out? I usually kean bulk at 2,600 cals. Maybe I'll toss in a daily tablespoon while on cycle and head to 2,700 cals. 2,700 is when I usually start to add fat though. I have NOW MCT oil
I have that too. You ever get nauseous from it?
