If DHEA, (Dehydroepiandrosterone), readily metabolizes through liver enzymatic process into, among other actives, Androstenedione, then why is it available to a six year old and sold right next to other lettered dietary supplements like, oh say, Vit. D and Vit. E.? It just doesn't make sense to me. I've done the usual googling and cannot seem to come up with a REASON that the FDA deems this a safe enough product to leave on the market. I'm not complaining, just curious. Any intelligent insight, ideas, postulations are welcome and appreciated.
...I do believe this belongs in this section as DHEA is a true blue dietary supplement. If not then please correct me.

At one point, remember, the fda wanted it all pulled. I want to say in 1993 or 92?
Then it was reclassified and allowed to be sold again in 1994 or 95'
I can't remember if it was actually pulled or if it was just discussed ... I remember those periods due to being involved with someone (95') that worked for the feds.

Scaremongering... oral DHEA does very little except block cortisol. A common mistake is to think just 'cause something is involved in the androgen pathway it regulates it. DHEA doesn't.
A heavy cycle might give you adrenal fatigue. For older guys the neurosteriod component can help, for younger guys does zip. If DHEA was banned then pregnenolone would be. Transdermal DHEA is more interesting.
DHEA was the darling of the anti-aging movement for a long time and whilst it has its uses (e.g. X-Lean, IBE) it ain't massive androgenic ... oral at least.

Good stuff. Thanks guys. It being not very efficacious in an oral delivery method, explains rather handily why it is at the supermarket and such places of non-discretion. I can see where it would be more interesting in a transdermal preparation, hence Dermacrine and 1-T lotions, given the changes that it would undergo during absorption.
Nice Phoenix avi btw matthias. My favorite mythical symbol for sure.

Well, it certainly does "something" as I always feel a TON better when running it alongside gear/PH's. It fills in the gaps for hormones that are perhaps downregulated with hormone use. It helps me with fatigue, mood and libido whenever running cycles.
