BCAA's are one of the few supps that i have yet to try, but everybody swears by them. When is the best time to take BCAA's (Besides obviously during your workout), and how many times daily should i take them? Do they really make a big difference?

When you take BCAAs is really up to you. Any time that you need extra protein, or at such times like first thing before training or pre-bed when you do not want to eat, but want to have something to help prevent catabolism. Whether they make a difference is entirely dependent on the individual and a whole host of other factors.

When I usually take them its morning, afternoon, preworkout in my shake, after my workout then before bed. If you take a lot it can get expensive but nutra always has good deals on bulk powders

ive thought about that a few times, how much do u put in total?
6-10 scoops of Xtend per day. Then I use Body Mortar (BCAAs with carbs) for intra workout which is a 4:1:1 mix.

Has layne aka str8flexed been on here in awhile he was studying the effects of protein quite extensively. Not sure there is a best method at this point, but I wouldn't exactly be using them too frequently. Some of your body's natural hormones are most active during states of depletion and without the presence of food (see:growth hormone).

ive been taking bcaa's religiously intra workout ~20 grams for a while. it works very well but i wonder if ecaa's would be better around workouts and bcaa's better around food? there was some study about ecaa's raising protein synthesis levels or something of that nature and IIRC they last a little longer in the blood stream with the other amino acids combined. bcaa's around food would work well because they combine with the aminos in what you eat.

does that make any sense? lol

I don't see the point of taking BCAA's WITH food because you get alot of aminos from your food. Around workout times, pre-bed, times of depletion or strenuous activity is what I generally do.

In my opinion it helps with keeping muscle during a cut more than actuay burning fat. I always drink during fasted cardio or when I'm in a cal defecit diet to keep muscle I worked hard to get. Always drink during lifting as well and I notice a big difference in how hard I can train. Xtend tastes so good I use it when I have a craving for sweets which really helps my mindset during a cut.

Also any times I will be with out food for a while to keep muscles happy. That's just me though it really depends on the person.

I swear by BCAA's as i train fasted first thing in the morning.

If you are dieting strictly they would also be useful but any other time i just can't see the point. Food, including Whey Protein, should be enough.

Glutamine falls into this category as well but that's another can of worms!!!!

how is it helping you cut fat? its just BCAA's...
BCAAs also cause an increase in fat burning, most likely because high BCAA levels in the blood are a signal of muscle breakdown. Increased BCAA levels after supplementation can “trick” the body into revving up the fat-burning machinery to drastically increase fat burning.
http://www.campusmen.com/building-muscle/bcaas.html

Use BCAAs To Help Cut Fat.
Another benefit of BCAAs is their ability to enhance fat loss. Research on leucine alone has shown that this amino acid can increase metabolic rate, and therefore the amount of total calories and fat burned.

In addition, research shows that leucine helps to blunt hunger. It is theorized that leucine is used by the brain as an indicator of the levels of total amino acids in the bloodstream. Having more total amino acids in the blood signals your brain that you are well-fed, which means hunger should be reduced to prevent overeating, and your metabolic rate can be set on high without the concern that energy levels will run out.
http://www.muscleandbodymag.com/article.php?ArticleID=5287

Supplementation of BCAAs has been shown to trigger significant and preferential losses of visceral body fat. Located in the deeper layers of the body under the subcutaneous fat, this visceral fat tends to be resistant to dieting and is hard to lose

Well, what I mean is I'm not losing muscle with a whole bunch of cardio being done. I'm not even using whey at the moment, just extend!
