FDA recalled supplements due to "STEROIDS" in ingredient

    Recall -- Firm Press Release

FDA posts press releases and other notices of recalls and market withdrawals from the firms involved as a service to consumers, the media, and other interested parties. FDA does not endorse either the product or the company.

*Is Conducting a Voluntary Nationwide and International Recall of 65 Dietary Supplements That May Contain Steroids

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Boise, ID - November 3, 2009 – As part of its ongoing cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration ("FDA"), Bodybuilding.com, LLC (the “Company") announced today that it is conducting a voluntary nationwide and international recall of all lots and expiration dates of 65 dietary supplement products (the "Recalled Products") described on the attached list, that were sold through the Company's website,

The FDA has informed the Company that it believes that the Recalled Products contain ingredients that are steroids. Specifically, the FDA has advised the Company of its concern that the Recalled Products may contain the following ingredients that are currently classified, or the FDA believes should be classified, as steroids: "Superdrol," "Madol," "Tren," "Androstenedione," and/or "Turinabol." While the Company has not had an opportunity to independently confirm the FDA's concerns that the Recalled Products in fact contain these ingredients, the Company is undertaking this voluntary recall in an abundance of caution.

Acute liver injury is known to be a possible harmful effect of using steroid-containing products. In addition, steroids may cause other serious long-term adverse health consequences in men, women, and children. These include shrinkage of the testes and male infertility, masculinization of women, breast enlargement in males, short stature in children, a higher predilection to misuse other drugs and alcohol, adverse effects on blood lipid levels, and increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.

The Company has not received to date any reports of adverse events in connection with the Recalled Products. Because of the possible harmful effects of using products containing steroids, the Company is cooperating with the FDA to conduct a recall of the products the FDA has identified as containing steroids. Prior to agreeing to carry the Recalled Products, the Company received assurances from all of the manufacturers of the Recalled Products that these products were properly classified as dietary supplements in compliance with federal law, meaning that these products did not contain any unlawful ingredient. Customers who have any of the Recalled Products in their possession should stop using them immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking one or more of the ingredients listed above.

Any adverse events that may be related to the use of the Recalled Products should be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online by phone [1-800-FDA-1088], or by returning the postagepaid FDA form 3500 [which may be downloaded from Download Forms by mail [to MedWatch, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787] or fax [1-800-FDA- 0178].

The Company is committed to providing accurate information about its products. The Company is working voluntarily with the FDA in this recall process.

Consumers should return any unused products purchased on the Company’s site to the Company. For instructions on how to return Recalled Products please call or e-mail the Company.

funny that in a recession we're taking things off the shelves that people spend money on.

the only thing this has done is make existing stockpiles illegal. now, i'll consider buying the real deal if the punishment is the same for being caught with m-drol in my closet...

yep. still a move that the FDA shouldn't have bothered with in light of all the other things they could tackle.

I voted for the old guy Trust me you are not the only one who thinks this is a load of ****.

Meanwhile, Cigarettes and Alcohol are still very much legal and cause more harm than any of the above mentioned on the fda list.

Alcohol is even acknowledged as causing sever problems. Just look at all the AA meeting places that are set-up.

diversionary tactics: they do stuff like this to show how they are looking out for the public's well being. meanwhile we are distracted from how horrible of a job they are doing on the thing's that are really important- jobless rate/foreclosures/bankruptcies/inflation/corruption/iraq/afghanistan...it's no wonder they want to draw our attention away.
hell they have been fighting a 'war' on drugs since richard nixon was president- i think everyone knows how well that has gone.

"Jeff Gilpin also addressed rumors about medications Max was taking. Yes, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Max was taking creatine, a muscle builder, but stopped one month before practice. And Max was taking Adderall, commonly prescribed for ADHD."

seriously? linking creatine to this? now, here's the rest of the story.

the coach denied this kid water, and he died in the middle of football practice. read the rest here if interested : http://jonathanturley.org/2009/01/27...less-homicide/

the point of all this : at what point, if any, does taking creatine a month before the death of this kid have an impact on what happened to him? read it and weep guys, because that's how all of our supplements are being perceived by the uninformed.

It's been alluded to that all of these AIs breakdown into andro. Whether that's true or not has yet to be proven. No matter, as they're all gone now anyway. Not much anyone can do about it short of a very successful coupe...

As for your other sentiments, I love the USA. I love our history and the idealism that it is based upon. The Constitution is one of the best documents every written. It's sad that for the past 50 years or so the government has forgotten about that document, the people, or anything other than themselves and their wallets. Very very very very sad...

The Tim is amused at how the Captain refers to himself in the third person.

wow is all i can say to that.
funny thing is lets count up all the deaths to steroids, even the far fetched ones like in the situation with the football player and creatine. Now compare to alcohol/tobacco deaths in america, hell compare it to just one.
Sad to say it though, this is all just a bunch of wasted breath like said before.

That absolutely ridiculous. I was thinking about this thead and the information here and realised that the FDA backs brith control.

Now I don't know all of the chemical breakdowns and all but birth control changes the hormone balance in women which has an over all effect on them physically and mental. Now I have never heard of anyone dying from taking brith control but the FDA backs such "medicine" that has been proven to alter hormone levels and possibly cuase birth defects if the women gets pregnet and still takes this. (she doesnt know she pregnet type of situation).

while we are being upset by this-our attention is diverted from our troops in harms way, a failing economy, rising unemployment- and the poor with no resources to seek help from- lets face it our country is in a crisis.
and what does our government do in this time of crisis? they invent things like this to divert our attention away from how badly they are screwing up.
this is just the beginning, look for more schemes like this to keep our attention from being focused on how bad of a mess we are really in!
