Can Saw Palmetto for High Blood Pressure Provide Relief

Most men will have heard of Saw Palmetto, as it is a common ingredient in many men?s health dietary supplements. However, can a person take saw palmetto for high blood pressure symptom relief?

The Saw Palmetto palm originally comes from North America but is now more likely to be found growing in Florida, Southern California and South Carolina.

It is a large palm tree that usually grows to about 9 feet tall and has large fanned leaves, the flowers on this pale in color and the fruit is deep reddish brown in color.

Also, the Houma Indians were using a drink made from this plant to help treat kidney problems and traditionally the root was dried and then often used for treating those who blood pressure levels were high.

However today it is the berries of the saw palmetto which are the most prized part. Normally they are harvested, dried and then ground in order to make tea or included in dietary supplements. Although the berries are quite pungent they have a sweet taste and once eaten seem to have a warming affect in the body.

The active ingredients in Saw Palmetto is believed that the beta-sitosterols, which seem help regulate a person's hormone levels, but it is believed that it can reduce the risk of stress, or at least help someone cope with a stressful situation better. This in turn reduces the risk of them suffering from high blood pressure.

The proof that Saw Palmetto can help relive high blood pressure is only anecdotal, and there is still a lot of research required before it should be relied upon as an effective blood pressure relief medicine.

Ensure that you receive a full diagnosis from your doctor and tell them if you want to take saw palmetto as part of your blood pressure reduction regime. There are some potential interactions that can occur with other medications, so this should be taken into account when discussing your symptoms with your doctor.
