Looking for advice on L-Dopa/Deprenyl as libido supp

I've been working my way through various types of supplements trying to find something I can take indefinitely (cycling if needed) to increase my libido. Test boosters help some, but not as much as I'd like. The biggest problem I have with my libido is that I seem to have an abnormally long refractory period; not necessarily physically, but mentally. After having sex I generally have no interest again for a good 2-3 days. After that I'd say I have an average to slightly below average libido for a 28yo male. I'm beginning to think this is more a matter of high prolactin levels than of low test (or possibly some combination thereof).

So, that brings me to my question. I'm interested in giving either L-Dopa or Deprenyl a try, but I'm a little unclear of the pros and cons of each for this application. Would either be improved by stacking with anything else? If so, what (and in what dose)? Any feedback appreciated... TIA!

I'd say just get some cabergoline and try that at .5 E3D and see if that helps.. Might wanna get blood work to check your prolactin levels..

I did some research on Cabergoline a while back and I was a little wary of the side effects. It's been a while so I'm a little fuzzy on the details. Besides, I have a good source for Deprenyl but they don't carry Cabergoline so I'm SOL as far as that goes.

Heart valve growth was seen in 50% of patients taking upwards of 2.5mg ED. Honestly bodybuilders will NEVER approach those doses.

Isn't one drawback to fenugreek that it can INCREASE prolactin, hence all the posts about leaky nipples from some people who have taken it?

I have some fenugreek, but plan to get some L-Dopa to stack with it first to help combat any prolactin issues.

L-Dopa is good at reducing prolactin, ALCAR takes my puffy nipples right away any time I'm on it, Ginkgo is supposed to inhibit prolactin as well. I'd recommend any of these alone or better yet a combo of them.

I went ahead and ordered a bottle of L-DOPA. Took my first dose (250mg) yesterday at lunch and it made me somewhat nauseous for the rest of the day. Is that normal?

That's kind of a low dose. I do ~1+g each night.

Never had a problem with nausea, but it is a possible side effect. Take it with/after food. Be aware that proteins inhibit it a bit.

If I took it during the day, I would fall asleep.

Hmm, maybe that's the trick. I did have to take a nap when I got home from work, so maybe I'll try taking it before bed. I'm just trying to make sure my reaction isn't indicative of a problem. Messing with neurochemicals makse me a little nervous so I'm trying to be extra cautious here.

Take it ~30 mins before your normal bedtime. Be prepared to be somewhat groggy when you wake up. You WILL feel refreshed though, once the initial grogginess wears off. Be careful you don't oversleep. I am out like a log on it. Even if I get less than optimal hours in, its a very deep sleep and you can miss your alarm.

Im on cabergoline right now - 0.5mg E5D. I have no negative sides.

Its not forever, just till my wife gets pregnant. When its her window, we have to screw like rabits and at 37 thats not exactly easy any longer.

Anyhow, its been working wonders. Seems like Im having better erections also, even without Cialis.

Interesting. E5D seems like it would alleviate a lot of the cost and side-effect issues. Did you get a prescription for this (assuming you're in the US)?

Why not use a COMT inhibitor with the dopa?

GTE is a natural COMT inhibitor.

Not familiar with GTE. What is it? I was going to start taking it with some green tea extract and see if that helps.

Of the dopaminergics mentioned, I'd look into Deprenyl as a possible longterm solution. Although the research is a bit equivocal, people in the life-extension community often take it for its health benefits. Bromocriptine also has a good longterm safety profile; however, it gives me nasal congestion each and every time I take it.

L-Dopa (or better, Carbidopa + Levodopa = Sinemet) and Cabergoline both have some very scary longterm safety issues.

Just above: GTE = green tea extract, so you had the right answer.
