Athletix Non-Stim Pre-Workout Review:
I would like to thank to Athletix and JD for sending me a sample and allowing me the opportunity to review their new non-stim pre-workout product.
Product Appearance/First Impression:
The sample came in a small plastic bag and was a white powder with some very large granules and it also had a nice fruity sweet smell to it. I was also very glad to see that it appeared to be free of any artificial coloring.
Mixability:
Considering the large size of the granules, it mixed up pretty quick in my shaker bottle with 10oz of water and a few shakes, but there were still a few particles floating throughout the shaker along with a small amount of foam at the top. This is not a big deal as some powders tend to not fully dissolve such as leucine, and others do leave some foam including some protein shakes I’ve had. I just refill my shaker with water to rinse out the rest and drink it. Additionally, after adding water, this confirmed that the product was free of artificial coloring which get is a major plus for me.
Taste:
Taste was surprisingly good considering some of the awful tasting powders I’ve tried over the years. The product has a very crisp and clean watermelon flavor. This is the first watermelon flavor powder product I have tried so I have nothing to compare to, but it was nice and refreshing and did not taste overly artificial. No heavy aftertaste was a bonus as well. This is also something I could see myself drinking pretty consistently.
Focus:
The focus aspect started coming in about 40-50 minutes after drinking the product. I had some pretty good focus and definitely felt an increase with mind/muscle connection. I really made an effort to feel the muscle working and really focused on form and the movement along with getting maximum contraction and tension with every rep. It was a very smooth focus and it took me through my usual workout quickly and efficiently.
Pump/Vascularity:
Pumps were pretty good on this product and are comparable to other pump products I’ve consumed such as agmatine, citrulline malate, and Icariin. The pump also helped with the being able to feel the movement and contractions more and let me know I was working the muscles targeted.
I was more impressed with the vascular aspect as this is what I noticed the most. I don’t normally get veins in my shoulders, but during my shoulder workout, I had many veins start to show. The usual places where my veins show such as biceps and forearms really popped upped, even though I did not train them directly, and many people at my gym were looking and commenting. This was a nice aspect to have and one of the most notable and aesthetic.
Energy/Endurance:
This was good and I had a very nice, smooth, clean feeling of energy and endurance throughout my training session and for the rest of the day. I worked shoulders, back, and calves along with some HIIT at the end consisting of 8 sets of sprints. Normally I am pretty beat after this workout, but it seemed to make the time go by quickly and I left the gym with the feeling that I could have done more if I wanted to. Some of the best endurance I've received from a non-stim product before. Also no crash after the workout which was also a bonus.
Overall Score: 9/10
All things considered, I was very pleased and impressed with this non-stim product. It is hard to find a good stim-free pre-workout product that tastes decent and is free of artificial coloring. Although I only used one serving, I was able to feel many aspects of the product working immediately. Pending the release of the ingredient profile, I look forward to trying this again and over a longer period of time, as I feel continued use of the product would probably yield more cumulative effects. I am looking forward to seeing the final ingredient profile, partly to confirm the actual ingredients in the product as well as to see what can be added to complement the product for enhanced benefits and synergies. So far, this appears to be what I am looking for in a stim-free product and Athletix has nailed many of the aspects I would like to have in such a product. Well done Athletix Sports!
