Thanks to stxnas and A.I. Sports, I was the lucky winner of a tub of Maniac (Pink Lemonade flavored) to log. I also received a really nice A.I. Sports t-shirt and some samples of A.I.'s line of products.

Some quick background info... I am 50 years old, 5'8", 160 lbs and have been lifting weights on a regular basis for the last 13 months. Until mid-July of this year I was working out in a crappy home gym with a lack of equipment and weights, but since then have joined a local health club and went from 3 day a week full-body workouts to my current 5 day split routine.

Monday -- 11/21/2011

Chest day

2 hr. pre w.o.-- protein shake + 1/2 cup of oatmeal w/banana (35+g total protein).
30 min pre w.o.-- 2 servings of Maniac, 600mg Ibuprofen and a joint complex pill.
Intra-w.o.-- 1/2 serving Maniac and 1 serving of RecoverPro (sample pack).

1hr 30min workout in total:

5 min. fast walk for warmup (3.5mph).

Guillotine Bench Press:
65 x 8
110 x 8
130 x 8
150 x 8
170 x 8
180 x 6
170 x 7

Weighted Chest Dips:
BW x 10
+10 x 10
+20 x 10
+25 x 9
+35 x 6
+30 x 6
BW x 12

DB Flys:
20 x 10
25 x 10

Decline Bench Press:
135 x 8
155 x 7
165 x 6

HS Abdominal Crunch:
+40 x 14
+50 x 13
+60 x 13

~3-5 minutes between sets and exercises~

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I took a total of 2.5 servings today, since I have been taking a lot of stims the last 6 weeks and have gotten a bit of a tolerance to caffeine's energizing effects. I was feeling pretty good throughout the Guillotine Presses but by the time I got to the Chest Dips I was feeling a little fatigued. After the dips it was all downhill as my shoulders were causing me some pain during the flys, so I did a few sets of Decline BB Presses and some Ab Crunches before exiting the gym.

The best part of this workout was the pump I got after the Guillotine Presses. Boo-yah!

Taste: 10/10 (The Pink Lemonade flavored Maniac is very sweet tasting, which suits me just fine. I have been using 7 ounces per serving and could easily use more water if I wanted it less sweet -- which I don't) ;)

What I find so surprising about Maniac is the pump I have been getting the last couple days. I got a really good pump on my forearms and biceps after the Deadlifts and the Rows (which I did with an underhanded grip today). I am very happy with the energy and focus that I have been getting, also. Now I need to work on that endurance... after the Deads and Rows I was feeling kind of drained, today.

All in all I will have to give this workout a

I am very surprised at how good of a pump Maniac gives. I have used a lot of products that claim to give good pumps but many of them don't live up to the hype -- Maniac does.

Over the last couple weeks I have pretty much revamped my workout and have started to use some different exercises that I believe will benefit me in the long run. I am also going to institute a new workout scheme starting Friday (a more defined rep/weight advancement layout).

As for today, it was a good day. I got a super-duper pump on my arms -- no kidding! The energy was good and, as usual, the focus was spot on. :D

I felt really good today after taking Thanksgiving Day off from the gym. I made it from start to finish today with nary a setback. I felt strong, focused, energized and PUMPED UP!. This was one of the better "shoulders/traps" days I have had in a while and I was quite happy to suddenly notice I only had 1 more set to do before I could call it a day. This is most definitely the best day I have had so far with Maniac as my new "workout partner." :D

Good pre-workout energy supplements, like Maniac, are the reason I stay motivated to hit the gym 5 days a week. No matter how tired or unmotivated I may be on any given day, I know that after I drink my pwo I will be ready, willing and able to hit it hard. ;)

Saw you took ibuprofen, pain killer? You took it pre work out?
I take 600-800mg ibuprofen every workout because I have chronic tendonitis in both elbows. I ice them up a lot, too. Today I forgot to take it but luckily for me it was leg day.

Ouch on the tendonitis. I have it myself.

Maybe you already know but I have seen that NSAIDS can be detrimental to muscle gain.

Yes, I have read some on this subject. I used to take about twice as much ibuprofen, per day, as I do now but decided to reduce it after reading that the inflammation process is necessary for muscle growth. I try not to take any ibuprofen on my days off but I don't have much choice when it comes to any workout that will involve my arms.

Besides, it's more challenging this way.

All systems were go, yesterday -- I seem to be getting better and better results the longer I am on Maniac. I got a new PR on my squats, which is not a super big deal since I have only been doing squats for 4 weeks and expect a new PR every week (at least that's the plan). ;)

Truth be told, I was a little leery when I agreed to log Maniac. I was so used to using products with 1,3 dime or adding it into whatever pre-workout I was using on any given day, that I was worried Maniac wouldn't give me that extra "OOMPH!" to power me through my workout. I was wrong in my assumption and find the longer I use Maniac the better the results I get in the energy/stamina department (it gave great focus and pumps from the start but my endurance was lagging in the beginning).

I am glad I agreed to log this stuff because (1) it's a really good product with everything you need pre-workout and (2) I no longer feel like a 1,3 dime junkie. :fest30:

Between the new rep scheme for my workouts and my new workout partner, A.I. Sports Maniac, I would have to say this was a pretty good day at the gym. I was taking too many sets to failure with the old routine and was ending up being sore for 72 hours after each workout -- which isn't necessarily a good thing. I also got a new PR on the Guillotine Press and was hoping to do a total of 4 exercises but my time ran out (too much gabbing today).

I have decided to cut back on my ibuprofen intake and see if a lesser dose will be effective for my tendonitis. I read in one study that taking 400mg, or less, per day did not affect hypertrophy (6-week study).

Doing Deadlifts before Rows was not working out too well for me. My forearms are toast after the Deads and that makes it hard to maintain my grip strength on the Rows, so I have gone back to Rows first -- lesson learned. Once again I got a very nice pump on my forearms and was able to get a couple PR's Tuesday, also.

I stay energized for quite a few hours after my workout is finish, which is nice -- I have tried more than a few pre-workout supps that made me want to crawl into bed upon arriving home from the gym.

I have been known to develop a tolerance to some pre-workout supplements after using them for a few weeks in a row, but so far I haven't had that problem with Maniac. Every week I keep getting new PRs -- which is to be expected, even if I wasn't doing Maniac but the fact of the matter is I AM doing Maniac and I like what I see so far. I have even given up a few servings to some friends at the gym while touting it's ability to give a good pump. If I try a product that I like I always recommend it to friends and people I know from the gym.

This day was the suck. My upper chest and collar bones were causing me some distress due to the "Guillotine Presses" I did one week ago... ouch! I will NOT be doing GP's anymore, lol.

I haven't done Incline in quite some time and was going to just do flat bench, but now that my "perfect exercise" has uncovered the chink in my armor, I will be doing flat and incline bench in the future. In hindsight I should not have been going heavy on the Guillotines. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

As I get closer to the 300# mark on Deadlifts I am beginning to have some problems with my grip on the bar (time to get some straps). Other than that I had a great day and really feel like a beast after "back day!" -- even if I don't necessarily look like one. :p

My chest is now starting to fill out and my back feels ten times stronger than it did 6 weeks ago. My only problem at this point seems to be my inability to get a good nights sleep these days. I keep waking up during the night and then have to fall back asleep again -- easier said than done, sometimes. It isn't a really huge issue at this point but I need to start getting to bed earlier or something.

P.S. I am back up to 600mg ibuprofen pre-workout; 400mg just wasn't doing the job.

I have good form, but my back is at a 45 degree angle as opposed to 90 degrees. I normally use a pronated grip but I do mix it up a bit and use a suppinated grip on occasion.

My strength is increasing at a steady pace since starting the log. I do foresee some plateaus coming around the bend with a couple exercises but I will just switch up exercises at that point and continue onward. So far so good, though.

2 hr+ workout in total:

215 x 6
185 x 10

Lateral Raise (Machine):

50 x 6
60 x 5
70 x 4
55 x 5
45 x 10

~4-5 minutes between sets and exercises~

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I started doing Shrugs on the Smith Machine very recently and was adding +45 lbs onto the weight I used -- to compensate for the weight of the bar -- but I don't think that's how it works with the Smith Machine. So my 240lb Shrug was in reality 195lbs + whatever the Smith Machine bar weighs... I'm so confused. When referring to the Smith Machine do you just post the weight you added to the bar or what?

I had really good energy, focus and strength today. The back of my shoulders and my upper chest are bothering me, so I am looking forward to a 2 day rest after I do legs tomorrow. As for last week, I ended up not doing my leg day due to some matters I needed to attend to.

I must not be awake yet. I saw the pic on yesterday's post and couldn't figure out how it was related, lol...duh!

Does your gym have a Hammer Strength machine for traps? Hammer strength has a couple of different machines for this muslce group. Mine has the iso-lateral ground base high pull (mouthful, lol):

My gym does not have those type of machine, unfortunately. Fitness 19 is more of a low cost alternative to a real gym.

I go there due to it's close proximity to my current location (and for it's low cost, lol). One of these days I will get a membership at a nicer gym. :D

You can make these gyms work by being creative.

how many scoops of maniac are you taking and are you noticing any sleep challenges if doses too close to bed?

I don't dose too close to bedtime and any problems I am having with sleep are unrelated to my usage of Maniac. I actually got a good nights sleep last night. :D

A good nights sleep is one of the best feelings one can experience...at least it is, IMO :D

I have such a different outlook on things when I'm well rested.

Nice video, bowskie! lol :welcome:

Welcome to my log, brah. I did a mini de-load --haven't worked out since last Wednesday-- because my upper chest and back of my shoulders are still bothering me a little. I finally dragged myself to the gym today and let Maniac motivate me. :slomo:

This is the first good night's sleep I have had in over a month. I got close to 10 hours last night. :baby:

Suh-weet! 10 hours! It sounds like you needed some rest. Did you lift some weights today or did you do something else just to get back into a rhythm?

Chest day!

2 hr. pre w.o.-- protein shake + oatmeal w/banana (45g total protein).
30 min pre w.o.-- 2 servings of Maniac, 600mg Ibuprofen and a joint complex pill.
Intra-w.o.-- 1/2 serving Maniac + BCAA drink.

1hr 45min workout in total:

Flat Bench Press:
120 x 10
140 x 8
160 x 6
180 x 5
195 x 2
170 x 5
150 x 8

Incline DB Press:
40 x 10
45 x 8
50 x 6
55 x 8
60 x 5
50 x 10
45 x 10

Pectoral Fly Machine:
40 x 10
70 x 9
85 x 6
100 x 5
115 x 4
90 x 8
75 x 10

10 min run/fast walk post-workout

~3-4 minutes between sets and exercises~

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I took a few days off to let my chest recover from the Neck Presses I had been doing. If not for the Maniac, I would have probably taken today off, as well. I was somewhat rusty so I decided to do some flat bench and from there did some exercises I do not normally do: Incline DB Press and the Pec Fly machine.

Having laid off the stims for nearly a week almost made the 2.5 servings of Maniac seem a bit more than I needed. It did serve to motivate me enough to stay for a full workout, though. No PRs and maybe a tiny backslide today but that's better than another day off from the gym.

I was tempted to go for a "running day" but that feeling soon passed and I ended up lifting some weights.

I feel you bigtime, I love cardio and the way it airs me out, however I only have a certain amount of time and would rather lift. That said when I am really want to lean out after nutrition has stalled ill add in cardio first thing in the morning and separate weights about 6-8 later and that just about alwaYS WORKS ON MY JOURNEY TOWARD SINGLE DIGIT BODYFAT LEVELS

A guy from the gym told me I should be on the stage and then he said, "You better hurry, it leaves in 5 minutes!" :alcoholic:
