Torre Gone

FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - Torre turns down offer from Yankees

Mattingly?
Girardi?
LaRussa?

Whether you're a Yanks fan or not, the off season aquisitions and the hiring of the manager should be interesting.

They made that offer knowing that he would turn it down. He still would have been the highest paid manager in the game, (especially with the incentives) but any paycut would have been viewed badly by the players. Steinbrenner wanted him gone, but didnt want to look bad to the fans. This offer accomplished both.

IMO, Mattingly is not ready. I like Girardi, but managing players that you recently played with could be tough. LaRussa always seemed like a tool to me and I dont know if he would fare well with Steinbrenner and the NY media.

I say good for you Joe. As a Yankee fan I am concerned about change but mark my words it will be Donnie Baseball and maybe a special guest sitting next to him to help guide his hand in the beginning

Its hard to see Joe go.

Don is a great guy, but seeing him in the bench reminds me of "the curse of donnie baseball".
