Terms like overweight and obese are pretty worthless especially when applied to people who are muscular.

Exactly. Overweight and Obese are measured via BMI which doesn't take into account body composition. Therefore, although I'm not a fatass, I'm still obese b/c I weight a certain amount for my given height :rolleyes:

Using BMI, Dexter Jackson, Ronnie Coleman, and every other professional Bodybuilder is "morbidly obese". I think they're afraid to do an accurate study with BF percentage cause they'll have to do more research than looking at the back of their football cards to determine height and weight and finding the BMI from that.
 
correct. what is an issue is "overfat".

for normal people overweight = overfat, but for US it doesn't

trying to apply the BMI to strength athletes is stoopid

what is especially retarded is when insurance companies, etc. just look at BMI for evalutation of health, etc.

sometimes it sux being outliers. :)
 
What a terrible article! I wish I knew who wrote it so I could make a note to never waste my time reading anything else by them. SI.com should be ashamed. I wonder if anyone there read it before it posting it from the AP service? That was just plain stupid.
