| NutraPlanet Fanatic Board Sponsor | Designer Supps' Uhockey (M.D.) reviews GUT Health This is the review posted by Mike (Uhockey) from Designer Supplements. Being a medical doctor, as well as someone that had never pulled punches giving 100% blunt and honest feedback on anything he has tried, I decided to ask for his impression and review of GUT Health. This is his response after using. Thank you, Mike, for a fantastic and unbiased review: Having used a few probiotics before with moderate efficacy in terms of less bloating while on a 'buliking diet,' as well as being an experienced user of any number of digestive enzymes and antioxidants for routine health benefits, I was pretty excited when Matt (dsade) asked me to try out Gut Health. While this review has been delayed and delayed due to my overzealous schedule of hospital rounds, clinical research, DS work, and trying to actually spend time with my family and friends, I finally have a free Saturday morning to offer my praise. During my two months with Gut Health I can officially report that my diet was mostly standardized to 305g complex carbs a day, 224g lean protein a day, and 50g fat per day with sources coming from entirely vegetables, fruits, oats, yogurt, nuts, olive oil, chicken, tuna, and whey. What I experienced from approximately day 7 onward was decreased GI distension (note, I eat ~2kg of veggies/fruits daily,) minimal flatulence, daily regular bowel movements (which considering my every 4th night 30hour shift during the ICU month is unheard of,) decreased feelings of hunger, and no illnesses despite suffering significant sleep deprivation and being around severely ill persons. Without overstating, I'll simply say Gut Health is the best stand-alone GI product I've utilized. Not only that, but it is good enough and safe enough that I would (and since have) recommended it not only to bodybuilders and people at the gym, but also to people I have seen in clinic who suffer from constipation and/or bloating. What I love most about Gut Health is that while most probiotics focus on acidophilus (already overly abundant) or a slew of varying microbes at likely insufficient concentrations, Gut Health's choice of high concentration Lactobacillus Casei is brilliant in that it not only increases the L.casei in the gut, but also through the mild modification of pH through lactic acid production, it actually promotes the natural growth of the beneficial bacterial flora that other products are attempting to supplement. Consider the benefits: #1) L.casei in and of itself is beneficial in the breakdown of proteins and carbs. #2) L.casei promotes the growth of L.acidophilus which increases gut amylase (even prior to the pancreatic secretion) and further assists cleavage of carbohydrates. #3) The combined growth of these two organisms, as well as other Lactobacilli, inhibits the growth of e.coli, h.pylori, and clostridium species in the gut....many of which are not beneficial and even pathogenic. #4) Studies indicate that not only is the organism antioxidant (one of the proposed mechanisms of GI cancers is oxidant stress, like anywhere else) but also may lower LDL choesterol by an as yet unknown mechanism. #5) While cleaving ingested proteins and carbs, there is evidence that L.Casei actually is anabolic at the level of the gut membrane, which may be part of its antioxidant and anti-constipation efficacy. #6) L. Casei has been shown in small studies to increase NK cell activity and improve systemic immunity #7) Other studies indicate L. Casei may decrease atopy related to food allergies (likely through the strengthening mechanism of point five.) In addition to all the above, consider the research related to the myriad benefits of yogurt and fermented milk products: guess who one of the primary fermenters is? L.casei. This is more great news even for those who drink their milk and eat their yogurt, but for the anal bodybuilder totally avoiding lactose? Even better - L.casei without the carbs. Bare in mind that the benefits for me were noted even in addition to consuming ~1 cup of nonfat plain yogurt per day. Now, take all of this into account, consider the fact that this is all natural and pretty much side effect free, and then note that the product costs less than 50cents a day. Honestly, along with Vigor and Multivitamins I really cannot think of a better way to spend your supplement dollars. Thanks to Matt and RPN for making such a damned good product in a time when the only way people want to spend their dollars is on the next 'best' pH on the market. In the long run, health matters, and Gut Health is great. WWW.NUTRAPLANET.COM Stretch your body, stretch your mind...let Nutraplanet stretch your Dollar. | Registered User | I may have to try this stuff out. My IBS tends to kick up when I up the carbs. It isn't too bad but none is preferable. On a side note this review makes me miss the days when UHockey was around here more. |
