| Registered User | DCP and diabeties My mom has type 2 diabetes and wants to take a fat burner to help her lose a little bit of weight. Stimulants are out of the question. The only thing I can think of is DCP. The question is, is DCP safe for diabetics? |

| NutraPlanet Fanatic Board Sponsor | DCP is safe for diabetics. It does not vastly affect blood sugar levels at all. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 0 or greater. Is she a diet controlled Type 2 diabetic, or does she take medications for control? DCP should not negatively effect her diabetic standing as long as she is/remains COMPLIANT with her diabetic therapy. DCP enhances fatty acid liberation and its subsequent utilization to enhance weight loss and increase overall energy/endurance levels. If she is not compliant with her diabetic therapy overall, increased ketone production from DCP's fatty acid oxidation coupled with an uncontrolled diabetic state(Poorly managed glucose utilization)can lead to excessive ketone body accumulation and bad things(potentially life threatening) if continued over a prolonged period of time. DKA(Diabetic Ketoacidosis) would be the worst case scenario here which results from a prolonged state of poor glucose management and accumualted Ketone bodies causing the blood PH to drop, and severe dehydration/electrolyte imbalances. This will lead to an emergent hospital visit. I will say however, it's much less common of an incidence in Type 2 diabetics overall anyway. As long as she maintains adequate diabetic management(Checking her sugars regularly and treating if necessary), DCP will work very well in assisting with her weight management. If she's a diet controlled type 2, dropping weight can often lift the diabetic status in some indivuals overall. Keep us updated with her progress! ![]() Recomp Performance Nutrition Representative To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 0 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Understanding the condition and staying dedicated to the treatment is the most important factor here for her overall. If she keeps her diabetes under control, supplements like DCP can help her manage her weight better providing huge improvements in her diabetic treatment/management.Type 2 diabetes has a different pathophysiology than Type 1 individuals. Often there is an insulin resistance even though the pancreas continues to produce some insulin. Often the liver continues to break down glycogen(glycolysis) when its not needed. Usually when insulin is present in the blood stream, it signals the liver/pancreas to shut down the mechanism of glycolysis(which it uses to maintain basal blood sugar levels), however in type 2 diabetics, inhibiting this mechanism often fails and the liver continues glycolysis even in the presence of insulin. So in effect, it adds insult to injury. Many of the anti-diabetic medications work at controlling this mechanism thus improving insulin utilization and stabilizing blood sugar levels. I wish her the best buddy, and i hope she does indeed utilize DCP to help make her healthier all around in the end. Once the dedication is there, the results will follow. ![]() Recomp Performance Nutrition Representative To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 0 or greater. | Registered User | PPAR manipulation is actually a promising treatment for type II diabetes and she may find that she actually requires less of her medication. So if she does use, keep close tabs on blood sugar changes. There is even a study on TTA itself (though I have not seen any published paper yet): TTA in Treatment of Diabetes and Dyslipidemia - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov |
