Protein Packed Chili.

  1. Protein Packed Chili.

I guess I'll start it off with an awesome chili recipe I have used several times over the years. Best chili ever. Note: You need a crockpot for this recipe.

    -1lb lean ground beef
    -1lb lean ground turkey
-1/2 tsp. chili powder (or to taste)
    -1/4 tsp. ground cumin
    -1 large onion, diced
-4 cloves garlic or 4 tsp. garlic in a jar, chopped or minced
-2 15 oz. cans of low sodium tomato sauce
-15 1/2 oz. can of turkey chili with beans
-6 oz can of tomato paste
-16 oz can of red kidney beans
    -No-Salt brand seasoning (optional/to taste)
    -Black pepper (optional/to taste)
    -Tabasco sauce (optional/to taste)
    -Garlic flavored nonstick cooking spray

Cook ground beef and turkey in a skillet along with the chili powder and cumin until brown and crumbled. Spray empty skillet with cooking spray and saute onion and garlic until tender. Place meat and vegetables in a prehated crockpot set on high. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, and turkey chili w/beans. Simmer 20 minutes. Add kidney beans and additional seasonings (optional) to crockpot. Simmer 20 more minutes. For best results, set crockpot on low and instead simmer for several hours. You will have better flavor this way. Makes about 6 servings.

Per serving (best estimate): 490 cals, 53g protein, 36g carbs, 6g fat, 14g fiber.

  2. Try this recipe nate dogg. Turkey Brat, Chilli pita pocket dogs.
1 big can tomatoe sauce(tastes way better than paste)
1 can whole stewed tomatoes(gives a blast of flavor)
    1 can hot chilli beans
    Cayenne powder
    Chilli powder
wheat pita pockets cut in half
Don't forget sour cream and cheese

Open all cans. Drain the water from the stewed tomatoes. Add them all together cook them on low. Season with chilli powders to taste. In a pan cook your turkey brats. The rest I think is self explanatory

  3. I am eating it as we speak. Very good chili, thanks for the recipe.

  4. For a cool little twist on Chili, put in a couple Chipotle peppers. You'll NEVER regret it

  5. Natedogg. I found this recipe after searching for a chili recipe. I made it verbatim, but with a few additions on my part and I think these additions took this chili from really good to awesome.

Here is my recipe: (crap, this is really good, healthy chili too!)
    -1lb lean ground beef (93/7)
-1lb top sirloin steak (got the butcher to make it coarse ground)
-1/2 tsp. chili powder (or to taste)
    -1/4 tsp. ground cumin
    -1 large vidalia onion, diced
-4 tsp. garlic in a jar, chopped or minced
-2 15 oz. cans of low sodium tomato sauce
-1 6 oz can of low sodium tomato sauce
-1 6oz can of tomato paste
-15 1/2 oz. can of turkey chili with beans
    -3tsp cocoa powder
    -5tsp honey

-chopped up about 8 roasted peppers (from jar)(optional)
-added a little extra chicken broth (made it perfectly "soupy")
Perhaps a bottle of beer next time???
    -Black pepper (optional/to taste)
-Tabasco sauce (optional/to taste)(i added quite a bit to it...yum)
    -red pepper flakes (to taste)
    -cayenne pepper (to taste)

These were my exact ingredients, and it is friggin' out of sight good. I think it made 7 servings, and per serving was around

    cals - 500
    protein - 30
    carbs - 30
    fat - 10

    not bad.

  6. Gah.... I come into this forum... and i get so hungry for chili.

    Damn you all!

  7. is it possible to make chilli without carbs?

Where are those 36g of carbs coming from?!

  8. You can get the hormel turkey chili for a quick and bland option lol... Good first recipe but I just go with one type of meat or the other.

  9. Looks good. Too many ingredients for me to mess with though.

  10. mmmmmm...... chili! Im hungry now!

  11. Ive just been using lean ground beef for my sole meat source. Adding in ground turkey does not sound appetizing. I buy bulk black beans, and red beans, throw in skinned dices tomatoes(from cans), chili seasoning, beef broth, garlic minced... The carbs from legumes has such a minimal impact on dieting and they are packed with enough calories so that your not starving. It fills you up and provides a lot of good nutrition.

Of course to meet protein requirments, I have protein shakes, chicken breast, steaks (not everyday) throughout the day and never really experience cravings ( carbs ).

  12. Pretty similiar to what i make i always opt for ground turkey rather then beef for chili mainly because its cheaper but also leaner. And usually i get lazy and end up buying a box of 4 alarm chili mix or whatever its called with the seasonings and everything already packed then add whatever else i want to it.

  13. This was awesome man thanks for the recipe

  14. Damn, that does look good. May cause a man to crap his bed though.

  15. I made this. It was good, but a bit too tomatoey. Suggestions?
