Yeah, I like a mix of Oat Groats and Barley personally. A lot of guys choose oatmeal because it's easy and everywhere.

^^^Not veggies?

BiggerGeek - I get groats at Winco. I don't know where you are, so I don't know if you have them, but any place you can buy foods in bulk will typically sell both oat and wheat groats.

To prepare: 1cup groats per 3.5cups water: the night before you want to eat them, put both the groats and water in a pot and bring to a boil. Simmer for 15-20mins with the lid on. Turn the stove off, leave the lid on and let the pot sit on the stove until morning. Reheat either on the stove or in the microwave.

For cutting, carbs are best left to breakfast, during your workout, post-workout and post-post-workout (i.e. the actual meal you have about 1.5hrs after lifting).

I eat like that when bulking... try to limit carbs except within the four hours after working out and first thing in the morning.

When I am cutting, I limit carbs most of the time. I guess I am just one of those low carb type of people. I just feel much better that way

Steel cut oats are just roughly chopped groats, more palatable IMO. If you don't overcook them, they're the best thing, but to find them I would imagine a bulk health foods store might have them. That's where I've seen them personally.
