Newbie here.....
side.JPG
back.JPG

I'm 5'10, 125lb, 12% body fat (oh, and female) :)

Been competition training for 7 weeks, and have my debut show on Oct 20.
My current program includes:
cardio @ 30min, 7 days/wk
legs 2x/wk
chest/shoulders/tris 1x
back/bi 1x
shoulders/abs 1x

I've added a couple pics, and you can see why I'm seeking help - I'm neither bulking fast enough (upper body) nor leaning out enough (lower body).

I've been doing a lot of low weight, high rep exercises (think 3 sets of 50 hamstring curls, 50 leg extensions, 50 calf raises, 50 leg press), but I just got a new plan that lowers some of the reps and starts to build in weight.
I'm taking in at least 150g protein daily, and am on a strict competition diet... so I'm basically eating chicken, veggies, protein shakes, and oh, chicken :)

I also am on the following supps:
L-Carn
Gluta
BCAA
Creatine
OxyElite
Jungle Warfare

I'm not seeing the progress that I think I should by this point, and it's freaking me out. I am waaaay too competitive to get up on stage and not perform well, and I will do whatever it takes to get there...... SO, I am starting DermaTherm in the next few days, and will keep you posted on that. I will continue to log progress and load pics....
PLEASE - teach me! What should I do differently?

Hey , good info...

Basically if you trust the coaches 100%....and paying them...

they will/should guide into the show as planned...

However -- you should always ask questions and get answers from coaches...

You are entitled to know the "what, whys and hows" of why certain programs or decisions are made...

You look good and as you know,,,, the lower body just needs to play catch up on leaning out to match the upper body.

DermaTherm Target Gel should help this process as you should be applying it to the hamstring/glute tie-in areas, 'saddle bag' , lower back and

lower abdominals.

Looking forward to your progress.

FYI -- they should be helping with POSING!!!!

You need to learn how to expand your lats for maximizing WIDTH....in the above pic your closing the lats in. Your chest should be UP, lats OUT, and waist blown out.

Figure is pretty muscular as prominent capped delts and flaring quads create a very nice illusion of SHAPE.

Your best bet is going to be practicing your posing and nailing them on stage. Assuming you're natural its going to be too late to put on any muscle if you are in caloric deficit (which you should be if you are this deep into your pre contest training). Get lean and practice your posing. Put on some muscle in the off season.

OK, updating my log. Thank you for all the great input!
I haven't started my DermaTherm yet, but will as soon as I receive.
Had posing class yesterday. I end up more fatigued from posing than anything else!
Still trying to nail the back/lats, without shoulder blades showing - I haven't mastered this yet. I'm still sitting at 12% body fat, so I'm re-starting OxyElite to help a bit. I'm in caloric deficit, and have bumped all my strength days to higher weight, low reps, about 5-6 sets.
I've also added in a second leg day and abs now every other day.
More pics soon.

Reach around and 'hug yourself' ---with your chest up...

Then slowly drop your arms while keeping your chest up and lats out....

This can help you put your mind into your muscles and connect...

I see this disconnection ALL the time....

haha I wish I was there to help...

Because once the chest is HIGH and shoulders BACK -- you should almost be resting your back of arms on your lats...

Lemme find a good example of what this should look like....

Okay, 4 weeks to go. I see slight progress, but lots of area for improvement (yeah, I'm no Tanji) Started DermaTherm this week, and I hope it works as well as it burns :)
Reps are lower and weight is up, and I'm doing legs and abs 2-3x/weekly now too.
Torn on whether to go Figure or Bikini, but still have a couple weeks to decide.
Input and critiques welcome, as always =)

You look great, with 4 weeks to go it should all start coming together in the next two weeks. Matt and uvawahoowa's (spelled that wrong 3 times) advice is solid. Pose pose pose. Have that so ready you almost don't even have to think about it.

Wow, I must say I'm impressed. I don't know many female competitors, and the ones in my area are all sad IMO...there's a Jennifer Murillo here in the Valley (texas) and she uses Anavar (so I've heard), and she doesn't look half as good as you do.

Impressive, if you don't mind me subbing, I would like to see how Dermatherm treats you in case I get myself a girlfriend ever again...just in case she asks for a good topical :D!

ohmygosh- I keep hoping the cravings will go away.. but I'd totally kill for, well, anything beyond chicken. And broccoli. LOL.
15 days huh? You're SO close!!! Which competition are you doing? Are you seeing change yet from DermaTherm? I just started this week.

You look lean, so I would think figure over bikini depending on what organization you're competing in. Do you have a posing coach?

Uvawahoowa- I do have a posing coach - an IFBB pro. She's spent a lot of time giggling at me :)
I'm pretty set on figure, it's just more my style than bikini....

Here is my HONEST opinion --

From your CURRENT DEVELOPMENT --- you would be suited more for BIKINI.

However -- I would really see if you could enter both -- also the posing is vastly different for each and if your posing coach doesnt know -- I would start watching YOtUbe NOW!

Here is a nice comparison -- Ask yourself -- which body do I currently relate to????

Matt-
When I look at the pics I am reminded how far I am from my target :( . My frame is built for bikini, but my personality, for figure. I have a long way to go to be comparable to either of those pics. Thanks for continuing to send super badass example photos though... really good for reality check, and only a small battering to the pride :).
Doing a creatine load this week (20g x 5 days), which kinda makes me want to vomit most of the day.
It's all good though. 3.5 weeks till show. More pics Friday.

You still look better than 99% of the population. It can be a beatdown to look at people in these forums and feel a little shaken, but you have to remember these people focus/profession is fitness too. Most of the population looks like crap, it's really dependent on who you set as your standard.

Hit bikini this time and work towards a goal of fitness, constant goals lead to better results and more gratification. Good luck

Never would intend to batter your pride or make you feel like you aren't ready.

I just want you to place the best ---but at the end of the day it's not always about placement but conquering personal goals.

But --- getting a first place or top 3 feels really good!

Like another mentioned -- you compared to 99% of all other females blows most away but in this very subjective niche industry

we are scrutinized in a high regard most folks will never comprehend. That's ok though, because being different than everyone else is a great thing.

Why the creatine btw lol?????

if your eating away muscle then I would look at your diet... protein should always be real high and lean.... five weeks out I was having a cheat meal... but not everyone can do that.... the body will not use protein to turn into fat... it will be used to repair your muscles... and as energy... fat... keeps you hormonal.... so I dunno what your fat content is like or what your dropping too...
lean meats like turkey chicken and fish... fish is easy to put down and on top of it full of omegas which will also help with fat burning...

Thats fine...it will just be a temporary replenishment of ATP and creatine phosphate levels in muscle which is exactly what you described. ENERGY.But it wont really add mass --- just temporary refill of energy in muscle.I would not do this too close to show since you risk bloating.Hard to put on ANY muscle why strict dieting and I would worry about putting muscle when show is over. Now you just need to be as lean as you can.-Matt

How is everything going'???

-matt
It's Jess.
I'm in last 2 wks now!! Still lifting heavy for one more week.
A lot of firsts in these pics:
Taken right after I woke up, so pretty flat.
First time without using mirror to help posing.
First time in competition suit (umm, need to find a place for the rest of my ass....)
Definitely seeing improvement from derma therm- especially in side poses on glutes.
Lots to work on over next 2 weeks...

JESS! sorry about that name error!

Looking nice -- very small waist circumference which is ideal for an illusion.

I wish you were here in Portland I would send you directly to Andre Scott my posing coach --- noone is better than him for men, women you name it, he does it.

You have more to display --its just a matter of getting the right mind muscle connection.. I know you have lats....

Hey guys,
Thanks for checking in. I had a 22mile run this weekend- part of a challenge, involves carrying 40+ lb the whole way, sets of push ups, etc. not sure if that was a help or hindrance this late in the game.
Last week! Started cutting water today, and diet blows :)
I take last pics tomorrow night, then head to show Friday. Fingers crossed, muscles pumped :)
