I do better on moderate carbs all around. I tried Keto for a while but I would always plateau...

preferences..diffrent strokes for diffrent strokes..varying ways/formats to pull a keto diet and tilt the body into ketosis..
a lot comes into play here. and - there is a certain mindset that one has to have, while living this kind of lifestyle.
for my part, i felt great, made progress, and then - got depressed and fell off the bandwagon for couple months, looked like shyt.
(do we sense a theme here?)
there followed my last contest prep - a 10.5 week turnaround from soft mush to a 3rd place showing in the Ohio Natural in Cleveland, '08.

anyway..speaking of food: brewing me up some anabolic chili here this morning, stepping outside the diet for the 2nd time of what will be, i guesstimate, numbers i can count on one hand. the diet i have is really pretty easy and fun - i might not be saying the same thing next week when i knock ~50g fat and my postWO shake off the plate every day.

    chili is simple:
    can of tomato juice
    couple cans kidney beans
    1lb extra lean beef
    banana peppers/jalapeno peppers/red onion

    bam.
    makes ~1850 cals total, ~210c/200p/25f

divide in three equal portions, and i have 3 meals of a hi-carb day lined up.
    yum.

that combo does sound rather tasty tho, AZMIDLYF.

jalapeno's, on the other hand...ooooooooooo let's just say, only 2 bowls of chili were consumed on this day.

Have you considered ground turkey? I believe that lb/lb its richer in protein and lower in fat.

Oh i eat plenty of ground turkey David, but - leaner than 96% lean beef?
Only thing I've seen is some 97% lean turkey, and 99% lean turkey breast -- and those will come into play soon enough, trust me.
The ground turkey I consume is 90% and 93%, not bad, but not as lean as what I eat now.
My protein is thru the roof - ~350-400g daily (don't need any help in that department).
And - the only reason I eat that lean of beef right now, is so I can load up on all my targeted fats that I want currently (heavy whipping cream, butter, almond butter, EVOO, etc.)..right now, fat is not the enemy, it is my friend!

(until next week that is, when i eliminate all those fun added fats for a week of hardening )

    Thanks for the contribution!

I know people have eaten horse meat in the past, but can you really still get it? I thought they considered it inhumane or something, like eating a dog?

    wanna see something amazing guys?

first pic was taken 1 month ago today, March 20..just a few days prior to starting AMv3.
(maybe now you can see why i was so depressed)
next pic, one from today - albeit nice & swole after a hi-carb/hi-cal intake day yesterday.
    weight at 190 upon rising.

next, we focus on hardening for a minute.

I used to love chinese buffets when i was younger..mauled all the sweet & sour chicken they could put out.
Nowadays - huh-uh. Of course, i don't care for any buffets anymore, since the older i get the more of a germaphobe i become.

In November 2011, Congress lifted the ban on inspection of horsemeat, which was the reason there were no horse butchers-can't sell it if the USDA can't inspect it right? So far no one is legally selling horsemeat, except in Canada and Mexico!

next pic, one from today - albeit nice & swole after a hi-carb/hi-cal intake day yesterday.
    weight at 190 upon rising.

next, we focus on hardening for a minute.

I good trimming of the hair to reveal a good trimming of the fat! Nice work so far!! This contest prep will probably just feel too easy with how long you have to go vs how far you already are!

Thanks luke. Been fun as hell to this point! Diet is ridiculously easy to work with - only downside is the time consumed to make it, there's so much of it!

But now, fellas, we gotta pick up the pace. I want to be almost show-tuned in another 6 weeks, so I can just coast & fine tune over the final 6 weeks. Everything is finite these days - right down to my experimenting with fat-reduction for the next week. I got to get things figured out well ahead of time, so I can hit < 3%, and still keep all the size I want.

It ain't as easy as it sounds. But - I'm confident we can get it done./

    END WEEK #4
    12 WEEKS OUT FROM SHOW

Week 4 continued to build on week #3 progress..

Weight: Holding in the 188lb range (190 after hi-carb/cal intake days). Cheat meal on highest caloric day this week was chili.
That may be the end of cheats for a good while..

Strength: Still rocking. Not setting any PR's - but certainly not trying to. This department is doing just fine.

Stamina: Plus plus..Actually toned down my kamikaze mentality a tad this week to focus on different development, stamina is fine with whatever I throw at it.

Libido: Again - no difference in "desire" levels, but
    1) I am not putting myself in a position of availability; and
    2) I am entirely focused on the task at hand, so nothing else really enters my thought process.
Did notice some random "attentiveness" down there again, when my AI kicked in..that is still happening currently.

Drive: Still going strong, but did notice a slight downtick in mental preparedness at the beginning of 2 sessions this week. The workouts themselves have been fine once I'm in the groove, but it's just getting motivated those few times..a first for this, thru entire prep.

Recovery: A 12, on a 1-10 scale. Can't say anything more here. Even playing tennis/recovering is like a blast from the past.

    Discussion:
With 1/4 of the prep complete, I'm pretty happy with where things sit - I don't think I could ask for anything more.
All small nusances have been vanquished, and even the nipple sensitivity/irritation has been nipped in the bud.
The only thing I noticed new this week, was a bit more hair than usual in my shower drain guard; yes, it does appear I am shedding a tad. Maybe I'm feeling empathy pains with my cat..it is springtime, y'know.
I fully was prepared for this possibility, and am not too concerned. Aside from it being temporary as I understand it, if it gets too bad, I'll just shave the dome, Vin Diesel style, and save money on my monthly haircut.

Anyway: I was debating how exactly to proceed with my hardening week going forward, and what tweaks to make to the diet. So many options available..but, I want to choose the BEST one, of course. AMv3 has certainly impacted my metabolism enough that I will not be able to do what I usually do, insofar as the massive (radical) swings in the diet, ie eliminating 1000cals daily from the diet plan.
I am a fan, generally speaking, of small changes to the diet; gradual modifications - especially when in prep mode..however, my body can also handle (and respond well to) massive shifts in the pendulum as well..
After sharing my concerns and dilemma with Matt Porter, he kinda confirmed what I was feeling I needed to do - that is, a bit bigger than slight and a lot smaller than radical.
With that in mind, this week I essentially make only 1 major change to the diet:
the added fats (mainly heavy whipping cream) are eliminated from my 3 daily shakes. This modification (and very slight tweaks elsewhere) will eliminate roughly 450cals daily from the daily fare. The PWO shake will remain in play - I feel even on steroids, if I try to eliminate both at once, I'll look like a skeleton in days..
A fatburner comes into play, to aid the goal to leanness..taking at 1/2 recommended dosing daily..
Also, will bring Ignite2 into action all this week.

So, we'll see what happens. Pics will be coming tomorrow as my photographer couldn't make it today..also, today is a day off (#4 now in prep) simply due to having other issues requiring my attention this day. (I made up for it with split AM/PM sessions 2 of the last 3 days tho..)

OVERALL RATING, WEEK 4: No letdown, no problems, ready for Week #5.. Feel great!

Oh, and a special note to David Dunn....

One of the small "other" tweaks to the diet I mention is, I eliminate beef this week and drop back to the 93% lean turkey meat for breakfast and dinner. Yes, sir - credit your inspiration here for the idea.

Going to be an interesting week, keep the ignite 2 down a bit at first, you seemed to have a good experience with .5 scoop, I would go up to .75 .. our products will never get accused of being under dosed.

No worries..I'm going to remain @.5 scoop until I need to go up.
My supplementation strategies have changed slightly as I get older. If I can get what I need to out of the most minimal dose possible, that is the route I prefer and will choose..
And what I've noticed is, I can do with quite a bit less of some things than what I had previously thought - and actually get more efficacious and extended use out of them.

I don't eat nearly a meticulously as you and I am not nearly in a competition condition. I do eat rather militantly when "in season". I was shopping at Costco and came across Kirkland's frozen turkey patties/burgers while shopping for hamburger patties. Turkey has a lot more sodium than I would like but you can see that equal weigh provides 75% more protein and 20% of the fat. Of course those are not the extra lean beef patties but you get the point.
