Has anyone tried a pair of these? It looks like the thicker leather would add a little more ankle support compared to the converse chuck taylors.

I've never had a problem with ankle support from my Chuck's, but, if you really want the extra support, then get a pair of wrestling shoes. Soft, but firm sole with a ton of support.
